Which of these two 60s Felix Leiters do you like more? Not including Lord since he's pretty much tops. I think Nutter had the right image of Felix whereas Linder had the better personality. Linder looked like gramps but Nutter was a 2x4 yes-man. Though Lord had both factors down pat. I'll go with Linder, his joviality was contagious, all reputations quite reputable. B)

I'm going to have to go with Rik van Nutter. Cec Linder was a little too old whereas van Nutter was in good physical shape and one of the closest matches to Fleming's description of Leiter we've ever had on film.

Van Nutter for sure. Linder was so miscast and underwhelming.

Rik van Nutter. I liked him in the role quite a bit, and as Righty says, he's one of the closest matches to Fleming's description.

Rik Van Nutter, though it would've been nice if he'd had more personality about him in Thunderball.

I didn't really care for either of them. Compared to Lord's take on Leiter, they both looked like chumps.

However, if I were to choose, I'd pick Van Nutter.

Linder's performance seemed like a joke. Definitely not something one can take seriously. Then again, in a film that includes lines like, "GOLDFINGER - YOU OWE ME ONE MILLION DOLLARS! ... SO PAY!" and "WHAT'S WITH DAT TRICK POOL TABLE!??", what do you expect?

What my man above said. I always kind of wish Jack Lord had embraced the role in the Connery era. Hey, he didn't end up with a bad line of work though. B)

Rick was really the closest to what Fleming's Leiter was. I always felt that Benson in the novels captured his flavour in terms of writing. Raymond himself has stated he always envisioned Dennis Quaid as Felix. If you've seen the film "Vantage Point" the final car chase - Quaid IS Felix Leiter IMO.

I do really like what Jeffrey Wright is doing with the character. I hope we have him and Craig working together a bit more closely in Bond 23.

Bernie Casey opposite Sean in NSNA is really good too.

Yep; I never really took Guy Hamilton seriously as a Bond director, as I don't think he handled the material with the proper seriousness at all.

I think of him as quite similar to Lord, who was my favourite Leiter.

Okay, I guess I'll play the (pardon the pun) nutter here. I'll take Cec Linder. Yes, he looked a little too old, but he had personality and played off Sean Connery well. I like Rik Van Nutter too--and he is the closest resemblance to Felix Leiter of the novels--but he doesn't have a lot of personality. As a result, I prefer Linder's version.

And if we're talking '60s Leiters, I'll take both of them over Jack Lord. However, my favorite Leiter of all is David Hedison.

Linder may have had more of a personality, but he also had a pension book.

Van Nutter may have had cool shades and a few less miles on the clock, but in terms of screen presence, he's a bit of a non-entity.(though not quite as anonymous as John Terry in TLD)

My favourite is probably Jack Lord, although I agree that Bernie Casey in NSNA was good too

I trully can't decide! Rick Van Nutter looks more like a CIA agent, but he also looks like a minnion you know doesn't talk much says yes not enough personality!

Cec Linder on the other hand seems to fit better with Connery in his films, but he looks a little bit old for a CIA agent that active!

I don't know! I kile Jack Lord for sure, though!

Indeed. Is it just me or are Bond fans often rather fixated on age?

Yep; I never really took Guy Hamilton seriously as a Bond director, as I don't think he handled the material with the proper seriousness at all.

As far as Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever and Live and Let Die go I think he handled the scripts he was hired to bring to life with the appropriate level of seriousness.

Van Nutter seems more like Felix to me, but I think Linder was the better actor.

I'm with Bryce, I wish Lord had embraced the character, he is one cool cat.
I also like Bernie Casey better than most other Leiters.

I'll take Nutter, whom I wish had been given a slightly more dignified treatment. As it is, some of the wardrobe choices are patently absurd (full suit on the beach, sunglasses inside a casino), and the character got slugged in the gut for no good reason whatsoever other than to reenforce that Connery's the alpha male.

As Felix, he's still more entertaining than Linder by a great stretch.

I've always liked Van Nutter, he just plays it well despite being basically a yes man. Then again, these are James Bond movies, not Felix Leiter movies.

On the other hand, Linder is the worst. He resembles Rodney Dangerfield, has the delivery of a typical character actor ("Let's get back to the hotel, I'm bushed")and just doesn't fit the Leiter profile at all.

I always get amused in the Miami sequence where Bond talks about the girls getting close to Leiter in Dr. No. Jack Lord's Leiter, yeah, I can see it, but Linder? Even his hat in that sequence is goofy.
