I've got great memories of Bond double features. That's how I first saw the films when I was just a preschooler and grade schooler. Bond and Planet of the Apes double and triple features were a big deal for an impressionable youngster at that time.

The Dr. No-Goldfinger double feature was playing the day I was born, so it seemed natural I would become a Bond fan. A lot of fans won't be able to appreciate how much fun double and triple features were back then. With home video, it's all easy, being able to watch whatever you want.

I remember the TB-YOLT one. It seemed like it came out at Christmastime, but I could be wrong on that, and I went with my uncle and dad. The two things that stood out for me in YOLT were the main theme, which I remember humming to myself. And when Bond kills the SPECTRE agent at the ninja training school. It's one of those memories that plays tricks, but I thought at the time Bond killed him you could see blood, but I've never seen any evidence to support this. Maybe when it comes to Blu-ray.

I also remember the triple feature being shown at a drive-in, again with my uncle, who always took me to these films. I don't know if I made it through all three. I remember bits and pieces of DN and FRWL, but it felt like TB was in there too.

The DAF-OHMSS was the most memorable of these. The article guess 1972 or 1973, but I remember seeing it in the summer of '74. Batman was my big hero at the time and I didn't want to miss that afternoon's episode to see Bond, but it worked out I saw the episode and made it to the double feature.

I'd already seen DAF, which was the first Bond film I saw when it was brand new, so it was familiar fun. I wasn't prepared for OHMSS. Who was this guy calling himself James Bond? I didn't know him. And I was also wondering what the guy who played Kojak was doing there.

The ending blew me away. I just didn't see it coming, although mind you I was all of 7 years old at the time. That made me eager to see it again two years later when OHMSS was shown for the first time on network television. It has remained one of my favorites in the series since.

I don't recall the LALD-TMWTGG double feature ever coming around where I live or I'd have likely seen that one too. TMWTGG was the only Bond film I'd never seen at a cinema.

Awesome way to be introduced to Lazenby, Turn; have you mentioned this on the OHMSS 40th Anniversary thread? B)

My first double feature was the re-release of Dr. No and FRWL. After the success of Goldfinger, it was time to play catch up. I was 12 years old and it was a Saturday matinee. The place was packed, but there was no goofing around. Everyone was there to see Bond.
At one point in Dr. No, the sound went out. To this day, I still remember that point in the movie everytime I watch it.

Years later, the Playboy theater in Chicago had a one day double bill of Goldfinger and Thunderball. It had not been heavily advertised, so it was a rush to get to it, but well worth changing my work schedule to see them. In the 70s, A lot of double bills would play in the city and not make it to the suburbs.

The last double feature I ever saw was TSWLM and MR. Talk about watching the same movie twice...

In the UK they were still releasing the Bond double features in "off" Bond years at least up until 1984 when I saw Moonraker/FYEO as a double; I also saw Moonraker/Spy as a double in summer 82;

They really should still do double Bond features. I would LOVE to catch some of the old Bond movies back on the big screen.

Well they screen the occasional one here in LA at the Cinematheque;
dont they do them at the NFT? (of course that a leap to assume your close enough to London...)

:tdown: It is nice to see a post like this because I can relate. I know my parents took me to at least one double feature with a Bond Movie as well as other double features.
Back in the day we did not have as many theatres so that is what they did.
I cant remember which Bond but one had The Good, The Bad and the Ugly that came first and then the Bond flick. The last one I saw myself which was TB and DAF in the early 70's.

There was a triple play that my dad and I went to and these were the ones that showed. Quite a Bond bonanza. In order they were FRWL, GF, and DN

I had already seen OHMSS and read Thunderball, but it was really a Bond double feature of YOLT and Thunderball during spring break while I was in 8th grade that made me a BOnd fan for life. A couple of months later I saw Dr. No and From Russia with Love as a twinbill and I started reading the novels.

It was You Only Live Twice that was shown as the second half of a double feature with The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
