I’m not counting Bond. Bond is a different creature.
Relieving myself from those sentimental ties, finding a top 7 was easy. After that it got a little tough. And I’m not sure about the order.
1. Jaws
2. Rocky
3. Young Franky
4. Alien
5. Superman
6. Taxi Driver
7. Godfather
8. Star Wars
9. Outlaw Josey Wales
10. Exorcist

Not including any bawnds, and in vague chronological order:
A Clockwork Orange
A film that manages to provide both visceral terror and an intellectually and emotionally engaging narrative.
The Last House on the Left
While it has some depth and is rather subversive this one more or less just provides visceral terror. Poorly made and with a clearly out of step soundtrack and comic relief, but these elements just add to the overall odity of the experience. Far more disturbing than The Exorcist.
Sleuth
A compelling and witty thriller (it's a hard film to pin down actually) with only two actors in the whole cast!
Death Wish
What can I say? I'm an unabshed action fan and this is one of the archtypes.
Dog Day Afternoon
Tight, brilliantly tense and, again, witty thriller with Pacino at it's best.
Monty Python and the Holly Grail
It amuses me
Jaws
Ditto
Taxi Driver
I remember sitting down to see this as a young naive film fan. Sure, I'll watch this film, but only to prove those snotty critics wrong. This wont be good. It will be terrible. I'll be bored out of my skull. Who do those critics think they are? I wasn't bored.
Rocky
A thaw in some buff's sides. Did it deserve to beat Taxi Driver? Maybe not. But I'll stick up for it over Network any day.
Saturday Night Fever
Not only an invaluable slice of pop culture history, but a great urban drama too.
I probably forgotten something, but I'm happy with this list as it is.
