James Bond is renowned for his impeccable style. Supposedly his warddrobe is always classic, although many of his outfits were just fashionable at the time. Many people will mention a certain safari suit as their least favorite outfit, or other relics of the 70's, but to me, the one ensemble that scars me more than anything else is Pierce's Hawaiian/Cabana shirt in Cuba in Die Another Day. Aagh I thought it was bad when I was 12 years old watching it in the theater, and I still think it's horrific now. Not only were those shirts NEVER EVER in style, but on Pierce it gives him a GIANT potbelly. The fact that he picks up Jinx, in her suimsuit, while he's wearing that with his gut jutting out sipping his drink like the world's most repulsive man, makes the scene incredibly unrealistic for me. So go on, what's YOUR least favorite Bond outfit?

I think it would have to be Sean's baby blue 'onesie'. Shudder.

Pink tie. DAF.

I actually liked the pink tie with white shirt in DAF at first. In my memory I considered it one of his most unique outfits, and Sean Connery pulled it off. Then, upon watching it again recently, I realized it's hideously short. A tie is supposed to come down to the top of the belt buckle, and this barely hit Sean's navel!

Pink tie in DAF- definitely. He might have been able to pull it off if it wasn't for the fact Connery was getting on in years, grey hair etc.

Its funny you should mention that Ambler. I only noticed the duck on top of the suit yesterday in Goldfinger, and i must have seen that film about 20 times. I literally couldn't believe my eyes!

The used car salesman outfit in the PTS of "Diamonds Are Forever".

Seems as if Bond had done some shopping at the nearby thrift store before pursuing his arch enemy.

That hideous green safari shirt that Roger wears in The Man with the Golden Gun; not only does it not suit his Bond, it doesn't suit any Bond.

The worst has to be the baby blue onesie in GF.

It has no competitor, IMO.

The pink tie would have worked had it reached the center of his beltline.

I love the safari suits myself.

Bond's wardrobe is abysmal in the dull For Your Eyes Only. I don't think it gets any worse than this. Bond gets around looking like a grandpa.

The same with Brosnan's flower shirt in Die Another Day. Oh, God!

I think it would have to be Sean's baby blue 'onesie'. Shudder.

I don't get why everyone is hating this shirt. Granted it's very dull, but it really isn't that important. Bond's keeping a low profile, it only makes sense to wear cheap, low-key clothes.

He's surely supposed to look like a tourist, and therefore it does the job perfectly.

Mystifyingly, short wide ties were fashionable right around then (for a full 16 or 17 days, I think), although that tie is pretty short even for those days.

I always have a question about the DAF pink tie and the one-piece terry cloth outfit in Goldfinger.

Did you really notice those pieces of clothing as being terrible, or are you responding to something that was pointed out by someone else?
I saw both movies first run, in their proper time periods and never noticed any problem with the clothing. Was it really all that jarring to you? No problem with your opinion. Just curious as to its genesis.
Thanks

As for Connery's blue terry jumper, I always thought is was the pajama coat that Fleming wrote about. It does look kind of ridiculous today (although I still want one for laughs), but is was 1964!

I never gave the terrycloth thing a second thought, honestly. Until I read some of the opinions on these boards, I'd always assumed it was something a stylish person circa 1964 would wear around the pool of an upscale Miami Beach hotel. But then of course I assumed that only because Bond was wearing it. I was 12 when the movie came out, so I didn't have a lot of informed opinions in the style area. (Not so sure I've progressed that far since then....)

As for the tie, I did dislike it a bit when the film came out, since I thought ties that short and wide, no matter how stylish they were supposed to be, looked silly. Even if Bond was wearing one. The color didn't jar me too much at the time, since bright colors were definitely the rage, and I didn't mind them.

Totally disagree about the cuban shirt.. I think its very stylish and cool!! It works for Bond well..

Anyways, my least favorite Bond outfit (not counting the dumb clown costume in Octopussy) is the god-awful brown, white and cream colored suit Bond wears on the train in The Spy Who Love Me.. Yuk!! B)
