Depeche Mode For Bond 23

A few people are mentioning Depeche Mode for the title track to BOND 23*. Their lead Dave Gahan brought this out a year or so back.
Have a listen. It's where I see BOND 23 heading tonally....
[Does anyone else remember some heavy-ish rumours that Depeche Mode were wanted / interested for THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH? Or am I making it up...?].

When I’m with you Bondy

They're still together!?
Alive and kicking their new album Sounds of the Universe (released 20.04.09) is very good despite some fans reaction of it being utter rubbish. (see MI6)
Gahan recently had a tumour removed but they are touring as we speak, got tickets to see them in December at the NEC Birmingham, first time since 93 Songs of Faith a Devotion tour.

When I’m with you Bondy
I go out of my head
The World Is Not Enough
The World Is Not Enough
Your own personal mission
No more volcano lairs
Nobody cares
Your own personal mission
You give the girls lustful stares
M gives you glares
An angst-ridden moan
With a downbeat tone
A heart of stone
No quips to make you groan
No Q or Moneypenny
It's so audience-unfriendly
Take out all the fun
Reboot the whole run
Reset BOND 21 into number one
Get directors like Marc Forster
Make it dull as ditchwater
Reach out, touch Fleming
Reach out, touch Fleming

I only asked because I have not heard anything new from them on the radio since the 80's. Maybe they just have not been that popular here in Oz since.

You are. It was for TOMORROW NEVER DIES.
However, let's also consider some of the other rumours in recent years: Thandie Newton as Vesper, Pulp for the TOMORROW NEVER DIES theme, Saint Etienne for same, Martin Scorsese as the director of BOND 19 (yes, really - it was, I think, Empire that ran that one), dozens of former Bond girls cameoing in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, TWINE culminating in a race to defuse a bomb in the Millennium Dome primed to go off at midnight on 1 January 2000, Pierce Brosnan and Denis Leary in a Bond film about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, Elton John for the BOND 20 theme....
And, of course, your favourite and mine: BEYOND THE ICE.

Thandie Newton was nearly cast for CHRISTMAS JONES in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, but the part substantially changed so the need for her was less.
Pulp were in a "running" for TOMORROW NEVER DIES and released their not bad song TOMORROW NEVER LIES as a B-side around the time. They could have been shafted as much as KD Lang was in favour of the cowgirl and her pick-up truck lament.

Really? Didn't know that.
Rather than Depeche Mode, I'd prefer The Cure to do a Bond song.

The part was originally a Polynesian insurance investigator that Thandie Newton had been circled for, but when the studios realised the character was too near to Rene Russo's in the then recent THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, the character became some Valley Girl no-one wanted to cast.Thandie Newton was nearly cast for CHRISTMAS JONES in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, but the part substantially changed so the need for her was less.
Really? Didn't know that.

Plus I'd love to see Midge as Bond in the video Rather like Midge as Indy in Love's Great Adventure.
Bagsy being Midge's Bond girl

Though, Depeche Mode is a better alternative compared to a duo like Jack White and Alicia Keys.

I love 1982-Violator Depeche Mode.
As for Ultravox,
I loved Ure and Strange's score to the original Max Headroom pilot.

Muse, all the way, with just a touch of "Supermassive Black Hole."

Muse, all the way, with just a touch of "Supermassive Black Hole."
No thanks. Muse are just a second rate Radiohead.

They have been less popular here in Australia, than the rest of the world, that is true, but 1997's Ultra reached No. 7 down under, their best ever album chart position in Oz.

I used to think that but I think they've got their own sound now but the first 2 albums are definitley R/H rip offs. Personally they don't do much for me although some of their singles have been good.
Radiohead are in a completely different class, muse are still playing catch up.
