I got this idea from an article on dvdactive.com. Basically, you pick a favorite movie from every year you have been alive, starting with you birth year. It could be your favorite that you saw in that year, or one that you've seen later but was from that year.

1985-Back to the Future
1986-Crocodile Dundee
1987-Lethal Weapon
1988-Die Hard
1989-Batman
1990-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
1991-The Addams Family
1992-Batman Returns
1993-Jurassic Park
1994-The Flintstones
1995-Toy Story
1996-The Rock
1997-Air Force One
1998-Armageddon
1999-The Phantom Menace
2000-X-Men
2001-Monsters, Inc.
2002-Attack of the Clones
2003-Finding Nemo
2004-Spider-Man 2
2005-Batman Begins
2006-Casino Royale
2007-Juno
2008-The Dark Knight
2009-I've only seen 3 movies that have come out this year, and so far Taken is the best one

I guess I'll exclude all Bond films because they'd probably end up being my default faves of that particular year. So :

1975 ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST
1976 Tie! ROCKY/TAXI DRIVER
1977 ANNIE HALL
1978 SUPERMAN
1979 ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ
1980 Tie! THE SHINING/SUPERMAN II
1981 THIEF
1982 STAR TREK II : THE WRATH OF KHAN
1983 Tie - SCARFACE/NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION
1984 THE TERMINATOR, but I also want to shout out to THE HIT aka SUPERGRASS
1985 Tie - FLETCH/TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.
1986 MANHUNTER
1987 Tie - ROBOCOP/WITHNAIL & I (now there's a double bill). Damn- Ahnuld had both Predator AND The Running Man out that year. Ah, to have been of age to see those on the big screen!
1988 RAIN MAN
1989 DEAD POETS SOCIETY
1990 PUMP UP THE VOLUME
1991 Tie - TERMINATOR 2/THE LAST BOY SCOUT
1992 RESERVOIR DOGS
1993 Tie- CARLITO'S WAY/TRUE ROMANCE
1994 PULP FICTION (Eeh...this is kind of the default choice, because I don't love it...I dunno, seems like a weak year, unless I'm forgetting something major. And Loomis, you seem to have missed out a year at around this point!)
1995 HEAT
1996 FARGO
1997 TITANIC
1998 HAPPINESS
1999 Tie - THE MATRIX/BEING JOHN MALKOVICH
2000 Tie - MEMENTO/CHUCK & BUCK/SEXY BEAST (needed one of these in 1994!)
2001 A very odd year where I couldn't find anything I particularly love, so I'm going to put two bizarre films that are compelling viewing just for their WTF/shock value : BULLY/FREDDY GOT FINGERED
2002 EQUILIBRIUM/ROAD TO PERDITION
2003 THE MATRIX RELOADED (just for the action, really) or THE LAST SAMURAI for a "proper" fillum
2004 SIDEWAYS
2005 THE NEW WORLD
2006 CASINO ROYALE (I'm making an exception to the no Bond flicks rule here, as this is a genuinely great film that goes beyond being just "a Bond film"). Non-Bond pick for this year is MIAMI VICE.
2007 Jeez what a weak year. I'll just put BLADES OF GLORY because I'm getting bored doing this, and it made me laugh.
2008 IN BRUGES/THE WRESTLER
2009 WATCHMEN I guess, if we must count Gran Torino as '08.

Alright, listen up, some of us on this forum are older than dirt, or at least older than the publication of Ian Fleming's first CR novel. We may be older than the cinematic Bond but at least as old if not older than the literary secret agent himself. And as such, your thread has caused some of us, including me, to dig back rather hard for some popular films that came out as far back as the mid-1950s. Well, here you go, hope some of these titles are somewhat familiar to many of you. No Bond films in this bunch, but many of the Eon staff were in these films as well:

1956 - The Conqueror
1957 - Peyton Place
1958 - Vertigo
1959 - Ben-Hur
1960 - The Trials of Oscar Wilde
1961 - All Hands On Deck
1962 - Hatari!
1963 - Call Me Bwana
1964 - A Hard Day's Night
1965 - Sands Of The Kalahari
1966 - Arabesque
1967 - In The Heat Of The Night
1968 - Ice Station Zebra
1969 - Downhill Racer
1970 - Tora! Tora! Tora!
1971 - Dirty Harry
1972 - Sounder
1973 - Charley Varrick
1974 - Gold
1975 - Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze
1976 - Won Ton Ton, The Dog Who Saved Hollywood
1977 - Star Wars
1978 - FM
1979 - The Muppet Movie
1980 - Airplane!
1981 - Outland
1982 - Summer Lovers
1983 - Sudden Impact
1984 - Legend
1985 - Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
1986 - An American Tail
1987 - The Untouchables
1988 - I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
1989 - Batman
1990 - Hard To Kill
1991 - V. I. Warshawski
1992 - My Cousin Vinny
1993 - The Fugitive
1994 - Natural Born Killers
1995 - Apollo 13
1996 - The Cable Guy
1997 - Hoodlum
1998 - There's Something About Mary
1999 - American Beauty
2000 - Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
2001 - High Heels and Low Lifes
2002 - Road To Perdition
2003 - Lara Croft, Tomb Rader

Like most leaving out Bond, not because they necessarily would be my choices, but because they're too easy as a fall back option.

1986- Highlander (was tempted to say Down and Out in Beverly Hills or Cobra)
1987- Robocop (Full Metal Jacket and Beverly Hills Cop II are close)
1988- Who Framed Roger Rabbit just edges Die Hard, because unlike the later it presents something which has never been done nearly as well, and because I've been enjoying it for longer
1989- Wilt
1990- Misery
1991- Dead Again although I'm seriously tempted to say the superbly entertaining Hudson Hawk!
1992- Unforgiven, lots of "guilty pleasures" (Lawnmower Man, Cool World, Universal Soldier) this year though
1993- B) it, gotta go with Demolition Man. Badass and wonderfully satirical
1994- Quiz Show, although I'll fess up and say that all three of Jim Carey's films that year (The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura) entertained me much as a kid... and since. I'm not even really a fan
1995- Casino. It's between Casino and 12 Monkeys. I'll give it to Casino, because I loved it on my first viewing where initially Monkeys just bored me.
1996- I'm going to have to be prepared to be labelled a geek, because I can't see anything I enjoyed more from that year, at the time or since, than Star Trek: First Contact
1997- The Game I guess, seems like a pretty week year, though as overexposed as Will Smith is now I can't deny I loved Men In Black at the time
1998- Cripes, even worse; I'm sorry, I'll have to go with A Night At the Roxbury. Guilty or not, it's given me more pleasure than anything else from that year
1999- The Thirteenth Floor, a proper sci-fi film
2000- The Big Tease, came out in Brazil in 99, but in the UK and US in 2000. As I can't find much else from this year I like I'm having it.
2001- K-Pax I guess
2002- About Schmidt
2003- Dogville, a diamond in the rough, with one of the most sequel-happy summers ever. The first year I started going to the cinema with friends on a regular basis, and many of them were not pleasant visits I don't mind telling you. When Johnny English is one of your better trips to the cinema that year you know you're in trouble.
2004- Quite a good year for a change! Despite that I'll go with the none too prestidgeous Club Dread, because the finale had me in hysterics when I saw it in theatres.
2005- Kung Fu Hustle
2006- Rocky Balboa. I looked forward to it for a long time, and it didn't diappoint.
2007- Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
2008- Rambo for much the same reason as Rocky Balboa
2009- Um, the film I've enjoyed the most so far was Monsters Vs. Aliens. That said I really enjoyed it.

For most years refreshed my memory by looking at the Top 50/100/150 on BoxOfficeMojo, so I've probably left out something brilliant no doubt.

I assure you my choices for 1888-1985 would be far more cerebral and impressive

(Actually, they probably would be)

Some damn great films and listings here people.

Now, taking this a step further, I found that it was quotes from each of my listed films that had me thinking.

So, from my own list, the quotes that spring to mind from each. Granted, some have more than their share.

1967 - In Like Flint - *disbelief* "An actor as President?"
1968 - Bullitt - "Just what matters."
1969 - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - "Use enough dynamite there Butch?"
1970 - M*A*S*H - "Was it really better than self-abuse? I mean, that was really the topic of our conversation. Does that big ass of hers move around a lot or is it just kind of flacid and do nothing at all?"
1971 - Hannie Caulder - "Shoot and move Hannie! MOVE!"
1972 - The Poseidon Adventure - "Is this a test! What more do you want?!"
1973 - Don't Look Now - "She's gone."
1974 - The Conversation - "It needs to be done."
1975 - Three Days of the Condor - "That's me. You can always count on the old spy-fucker."
1976 - Murder By Death - "Terribly sorry...We'll see you at the house then."
1977 - The Deep - "She was a smart lady."
1978 - Force Ten from Navarone - "It could have been luck."
1979 - ffolkes (aka: North Sea Hijack/Esther, Ruth & Jennifer) "Timing underwater. Speed underwater. Yesterday, one man completed the operation on time...ME! Today gentlemen *holds up live grenade* You will ALL be on time. First marker, two minutes from...NOW!"
1980 - Caddyshack - "The amazing thing about this stuff is, you can play thirty-six holes on it in the afternoon, take it home that night and just get stoned to the bejessus belt on the shit. I got pounds of this stuff."
1981 - Outland - "Think it over."
1982 - I, the Jury - "Not a bad living for lady that teaches people to get off."
1983 - Blue Thunder - "Catch you later."
1984 - Beverly Hills Cop - "No, it should be more natural..."Look man, we ain't falling for no banana in the tail pipe!" You've been hanging out with this guy too long."
1985 - Target - "Tell him Duke is back in town."
1986 - Running Scared - "Mother, could I have some more petite mashmellows for my Coco?"
1987 - The Untouchables - "Just like a Wop...Brings a knife to a gunfight."
1988 - The Dead Pool - "You forgot your fortune cookie."
1989 - Good Lord - What franchise didn't come out that summer? B) For the record though, I'll go with the Bat. - "I'm Batman."
1990 - The Hunt for Red October - " 'Some things in here don't react too well to bullets.' - Yeah, like me. I don't react too well to bullets."
1991 - Terminator 2 - "Come with me if you want to live."
1992 - Unforgiven - "You give Ned a proper burial! If you don't, I'll come back here and kill all of you and your children!"
1993 - The Fugitive - "I didn't kill my wife!"
1994 - Speed - "Shoot the hostage."
