Con & Laz debuted as Bond at the ages of 31 & 30 respectively. & then came Granpa Rodge, who became Bond at the age he should've quit the role. The 3 actors who followed him made their Bond debuts at 40 (Timmy), 42 (Brozza) & 38 (Danny), at an average of 40.

Personally, I feel No. 7 should make his Bond debut in his early 30s, say between 30-34, ideally at 33-something. He will be just right for the role then. And he can continue till he is around 42-43 and bow out without becoming Uncle Bond. If it is Henry Cavill who succeeds Danny, he should debut in 16-17, when he will be 33-34, IMO a good age to debut as Bond.

What do you think?

And how about an older Bond girl to accompany a 33-34 yr old Bond? Say a Bond girl who's at least 5 yrs older than Bond? Never happened before. Yeah, Honor Blackman was 4 yrs older than Con in Goldfinger, & Diana Rigg was a year older than Laz, but I'm talking about a 34-something Bond with a 40 yr old Bond girl. That would be interesting alright. What are the chances of this happening? And how do you picture such an interaction? And who would you pick as a 34 yr old Bond and a 40 yr old Bond girl?

Depends on who it is. Pierce Brosnan was pretty young on debut and looked like a boy who was barely old enough to shave (though by the end of GOLDENEYE he looked the part).

Early thirties will be exactly the age of the actor I would imagine will succeed Mr Craig...

After Craig's last movie (which I think'll be either B23 or B24), no doubt we'll have another 4 or so year gap whilst things are reorganised. I don't think that Bond #7 will be a Craig copy - I think he'll be more traditional-looking. Smart money in 2009 is on Henry Cavill, but things can change.

A possible future time line:

B23 - 2011
B24 - 2013

Break

B25 - 2017 Cavill's debut (aged 34)

Completely agreed! An actor in his early 30s would be ideal for Bond No.7! Depends on the actor, however! Some look like they're in their forties, while htey're only 34-36 and others like they've just graduated from highschool!

Smart money in 2009 is on Henry Cavill

I keep reading this, but damned if I know why.

No, Bond 7 ought not to be in his early 30s, unless he happens to look considerably older (as I expect Craig himself did when he was that age). No more reboots or origin stories, please. Not for a good few decades, anyway. The next guy ought to be a continuation of the Bond Craig is playing.

No young puppy please. After having a Bond, who actually looked like a man, it would be hard to start with a "pretty" face again. Lets continue with a Bond who looks like he could actualy do and know all the stuff, he is supposed to. Anyway - here is hoping, that we don´t have to think about that for a long time to come.

Couldn't agree more - it's time to junk this notion these days that a man in his 40s is somehow finished. If we're still trying to stick close to Fleming's Bond then he has to be over 40. I think that's also an age in which the style of Bond would have realistically come into fruition. He's a man of worldly experience with places and women and has developed a taste for the finer things in life that youth has no time for.
And no Henry Cavill please - such a poseur.

If we're going to continue to have long gaps between Bond movies then they might have to start casting younger if we want to see a Bond actor do any more than three movies. Early to mid 40's is the ideal age for a Bond actor imo, but if they cast 40 year olds or older we'll be lucky to have three films before they're in their 50's.

If he was good enough to be one of the final two contenders despite looking incredibly childish at the time (he still looks too young), he must have impressed the producers/director, so I will keep an open mind about him.

Having recent;y been watching the Tudors on dvd, I personally think that Cav, at the moment seems a little young. However James Frain, who plays Thomas Cromwell, is dark and brooding a la Dalton and looks more mature.

Not too young for me.

On that note, I find boyish types like Shia LeBoeuf to be completely unbelievable as action heroes because they look like highschool kids.

Yeah, Henry Cavill doesn't look too bad with the scruff, but once he shaves, he just looks too young. And I severely doubt we will ever see a bearded Bond unless it's a scenario like the earlier parts of Die Another Day. Right now, Cavill is just too...pretty boy.

Really, anyone in their early 30s would be a no for me. Mid thirties at the earliest, and even then, it's a bit of a stretch. Bond should have sex appeal, yes, but he shouldn't be eye candy. Late thirties/early forties is where I'd like to see them start.

Ideally, I would want someone in his early- to mid- thirties. However, as I loved the Moore period, if a special actor could be be found I could go either younger or older.

I kind of agree. Everytime I watch (yes, I do watch it once in a while) the first Tomb Raider movie, I think how good it would've been if Casino Royale would've been done back then, with then younger Daniel Craig.

Not changing anything. The movie would be the same. Dan the Man would just be 5 years younger. As would Eva Green, but her age wouldn't really be the problem. In any case. Well, expect if she were an infant B)

So, to answer the question being asked ; Yes. Let's have a 30 year old actor to portray a bit younger Bond the next time.

I can't see Craig going anywhere just yet. He's up for 3 more in his contract and if the prods will have him will probs stay for more.

I do hope they show Sam Worthington some love when Craig does retire.

After DC retires.....I would say that's a good idea.

And while at it, please, we need a younger (male) M.

M = 48

Don't you mean Sam Worthington? I'll continue to completely write Cavill off until he actually makes a name for himself as an actor (as Craig did prior to Bond with the likes of OUR FRIENDS IN THE NORTH and LAYER CAKE), as opposed to a model and perennial also-ran in big auditions like Batman and Bond.

(The IMDb informs me that he was also the first choice to play Edward Cullen in TWILIGHT. Honestly, has any actor ever been more famous for the roles he hasn't played?)

LOL!
Cavill sums up what I dislike about so many "actors" cuttering up the screen nowadays - all style no substance.
Daniel Craig has both.

Yes.
Or his late 20s.

As for an older girl, perhaps, depending on the story and the characters, but in general I prefer them to be about evenly matched.

I think we could stand to have a bond girl even in her 50s or 60s. Judi Dench could've been a potential candidate if she weren't playing M. B)
