The difference is the same between a hangover and depression.

Not that I agree, but I enjoyed your post.

I've had both, and I'm not quite sure I agree.

I'll opt for a head to head approach:

DAF Sean vs NSNA Sean: Clear win for NSNA here – Connery is about as lean and tough as a 52/3 year old man is likely to ever be.

DAF music vs NSNA music: John Barry provided the DAF score. ‘Nuff said. DAF wins.

DAF Blofeld vs NSNA Blofeld: As much as I like the leftfield performance by Charles Grey, Klaus-Maria Brandauer gets the gong for this one.

DAF’s Tiffany vs NSNA’s Domino: If this was judged on the first half of both movies then Tiffany would win, but as her IQ drops below 60 in the second half of DAF, I’m going to have to go with the more consistent Domino.

DAF’s Wint and Kidd vs NSNA’s Fatima Blush: Oooh, close one. I like both options, but which is more original? Fatima is just a reworking of Fiona Volpe really. I’m going with Wint and Kidd.

DAF’s production design vs NSNA’s production design: NSNA is unremarkable – solid, efficient but nothing spectacular. Ken Adam produces some memorable sets for DAF, so I’m going with DAF here.

DAF’s direction or NSNA’s direction: Hmm, Irvin Kershner wins here. Guy Hamilton only really directed one outstanding Bond movie (a rather poor 1 in 4 ratio).

So, NSNA wins I think. Strange that, as I actually prefer DAF. It has a strange charm. Lana Wood’s assets have no influence on my decision….

Neither is very good, but it pains me to watch DAF whereas I can tolerate NSNA. I mean, I enjoy much about both films (Jill St. John and Barbara Carrera come to mind), but they both have a feeling of "Connery's back, our work is done." At least Connery delivered somewhat in NSNA, playing Bond as he remembered him (even if not exactly how he was), whereas in DAF Connery just played Sean Connery.

My feelings exactly. B)

I can sit back and enjoy both movies, though, If I'm in the right mood. Never Say Never Again more so.

Personally speaking, I find them both to be the weakest entries for Connery, but if I had to pick one it would have to be DAF. The first twenty minutes or so, at least up until the elevator fight, is great and some of the one liners are the best in a Bond picture. I find the history regarding the making of NSNA more interesting than the film itself.

Both pretty poor...but at a puch it has to be DAF; as others have posted, a bad movie raised by the outstanding work of John Barry, Ken Adam, Shirley Bassey etc; The loss of Peter Hunt as editor was a big problem and the second half of the movie is just awful... but still better than the abysmal NSNA..

Interestingly, I go to Las Vegas on a regular basis and always stay at the Hilton (the Whyte House)....

Hmmmm . . . this might be difficult.

I liked Connery's performance in NSNA more. And he looks better. But I thought that Jill St. John made a stronger leading lady, despite her character turning into a ditz in DAF's last half hour. I thought Klaus Maria Brandauer made a better main villain, but I enjoyed Charles Gray's performance more. Barbara Carrera as Fatima Blush was WAY too over-the-top for me. I didn't like her at all. I enjoyed Wint and Kidd - except for their lame fight against Bond in the end. Video games in Bond movie . . . so way out of place. Give me a slightly sleazy Vegas casino every time.

Despite my low opinion of DAF, I still like it more than NSNA. So I'm going to go with the 1971 film.
