Now that I have watched it again... (possible small spoiler)

After seeing QoS in the theater, I initially had it ranked very low on my personal list of Bond films. Now that I have seen it again, I have to put it higher. The plot seemed a little convoluted upon the first watch but made much more sense the second time around. And talk about the movie's subtleties! There is quite a bit more character development than one is used to seeing in a Bond movie, but you really have to pay attention to catch it all.

I personally hope that Quantum becomes a modern day SPECTRE, at least for one more film, as there is serious potential to flesh this storyline out. But to at least have a point for this thread, did anyone one else enjoy the movie much more the second time around?

Oh, yes. I ended up seeing it nine times in the theatre, and on first viewing, it's safe to say that both my husband and I felt underwhelmed. However, a second viewing turned our opinions around 180 degrees. I think it's like those lines from "Casino Royale":

Vesper: "I never saw so much fly out the door so quickly."
Bond: "Or so stylishly."

That's an apt description of much of what happens in "Quantum of Solace." It goes by so quickly that, especially the first time around, it's hard to catch a lot of it. But I found that the more I watched it, the more I got; hence, the greater my enjoyment of the film. But it took multiple viewings for me to absorb it all.

When i first saw it in the theatre i thought it was good but nowhere close to casino royale, which is one of my three favorite films. the more i watch qos though the closer it seems to get to casino royale

there are definitely several things in qos that i like more than casino royale such as the pacing, craig's performance (although he was great in casino royale as well), the tone being closer to fleming (especially since i just finished up the fleming series of novels finally). i also feel like watching qos highlights some of the weaknesses of casino royale that i had not really given a thought before.

I've enjoyed the film much more upon subsequent viewings as well, although I thought that it was brilliant when I saw it the one time in theaters as well. But, each time I've seen it on Blu-ray, it has gotten even better, as I catch some subtle things here and there that I didn't on earlier viewings (such as Craig's reaction to Fields' demise, which is one of the better acting moments in the franchise).

Still a movie that you have to watch multiple times to actually make it good or make sense fails

There are some nice subtle clever things that you notice on multiple viewings. I actually noticed this one on my second viewing:-

When Bond asks for a name check on Dominic Greene, he spells out the name. M's hologram wall displays predictive text as Bond says each letter.

It types out G then R but when he says the word double (he is about to say "double E", the computer predicts he is about to say W (double-u), and types W, before quickly changing to EE when Bond completes that part of the spelling.

Ingenious!

i disagree. i would rather have a movie that gets better with each viewing than a movie that you get tired of.

Never noticed that. Have to pay attention when I watch it tomorrow.

Agreed. It's not that it needs multiple viewings merely to understand it at a basic level;

Rather, it warrants more viewings because, well, most decent movies do.
