2011 will mark the ten year annvesery of the 9/11 attacks with both the 007 in new york rumours and the rumour bond 23 is coming out in 2011 and the fact that the bond films deal with more real world scenarios do you think the producers would bring up 9/11 or have a bond film set in New york to honor the event?
would this be a good idea or a bad idea?
As someone who nearly lost a close friend in the attacks depending on how this was handled i'd either be happy or greatly upset. Of course if someone on this board has lost someone my condolences go out to you.

No. Firstly, we dont need bond in NY. If people are so desperate to see NY, go watch bourne or sex and the city. As for 9/11 there are more than enough movies paying some sort of tribute, its not needed in a bond flick, we dont want things to become blatantly pretentious. Glamour, spectacle and unfamiliarity is what we need with regards to locations. America and NY especially is too common & unoriginal.

The problem I have with it being in New York is the fact that it is a city that has been featured in movies so many times that I don't feel it would work so I feel it would be more interesting if it were to take place in the U.S. to be in a city that have not been in a Bond film before like Mount Rushmore in North Dakota, The Gateway Arch in St. Louis (I could see a decent action scene taking place in the elevator shafts of the arch where the actual elevators are really small and actually rotate around each other the the actual elevators are spherical and look like they are straight out of 2001: A Space Odyssey), or Seattle where the Space Needle is. Plus I don't see them getting close to any real world situations with Bond 23 because QoS did that and I think they will just stay away from something as big as 9/11 as a major plot point but it could be mentioned like it was in CR.

I agree and disagree on the points here.
With due respect to the 9/11 attacks, I think the tributes have been done.
Irrespective of whether films continue to portray them is not a detriment to anyone forgetting as we never will.
But I think any reference to it in the next Bond film might be a little trite. I don't know.
The Bond producers have always favoured filming in Europe etc so maybe the US might get a say this time.
I personally do prefer the more exotic locales myself and there are some countries that would provide a gorgeous backdrop for the film that yet have been unused or brushed over lightly in the past.
EoN and Co. have a veritable "world is their oyster" budget and will use it to the most "glamorous travelogue" effect.

Considering that Babs made these comments to Variety before Quantum of Solace was even released in theatres, I suspect she was playing to the crowd and telling them what they wanted to hear more than anything else. After all, MGW has said that no significant work has taken place on Bond 23 as yet, so how can they have locations in mind?the 007 in new york rumours

Maybe it's because I live here, but I don't want to see Bond in the US.

Wow, 10 years, funny how time goes by....................
Frankly 10 years of remembering something is a personal experience and does not need to be feed to us by a commcercial entertainment thing. I want Bond to be what it is, an escapist experience of 2 hours or so.
There will be plenty of reflection going on in 2011, we do not need anymore reminders.

Casino Royale already referenced September 11.
That's enough of an "honor".
Let the movies be movies. Let memorials fulfill the role of remembering the people and events of the day.

Since when do you speak for people?
The moment where you can point out where I said I did.

I don't know if it would work as a full film, and the title alone (while still Fleming material) is pretty generic. But maybe if there is a 3 year wait, around a
year or so before releasing bond 23, maybe have a 15 minute short screen in front of
whatever Summer/Fall MGM film coming out. Maybe a teaser that would tie into bond 23.
007 in New York. A promotional item, but a stand-alone short film as well.

While admitily 007 in new york is the dullest title for one film and the tenth annvesery of 9/11 i can stomach it. only if they use Scissorpuppy's logo
