Perhaps he's starting a remake back catalogue and will add ESCAPE TO ATHENA, GOLD and THE MAN WHO HAUNTED HIMSELF to his CV too, no?
There would be worse people than Guy Ritchie asked to direct a Bond film. Though his best films are his last and first efforts (ROCK N ROLLA and LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS) and everything else in between was far from decent.

Really? Who? I think Ritchie's one of the worst "name" directors of all time. He makes Brett Ratner look like Kurosawa and Michael Bay look like Satyajit Ray.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T entertain the thought, please, for the love of...Waaaaah!!!

I could just imagine a PTS scored to Fool's Gold, with a crash zoom onto James Bond, freeze frame, subtitle appears underneath "Jim". Or the Aston Martin speeding over a ramp in slow motion to Ride of The Valkyries.
Someone else can make that Madonna observation...

Funny you say that, because I got more of a swinging Bond vibe out of the Beautiful Stranger promo than anything Ritchie has put his name to. I'd be more than happy to have Ratner do a music video for a James Bond title song.

I thought ROCK N ROLLA was thankfully a return to form...There would be worse people than Guy Ritchie asked to direct a Bond film.

But I know what you mean.
Maybe I'm just trying to stir it up....(maybe). His SHERLOCK HOLMES will be the proof of the pudding for the rest of us.

Guy Ritchie was never that good
Snatch was enjoyable good fun.
RocknRolla was awfull, terrible movie. The only redeeming feature was Toby Kebbell who showed he was awesome.

I'm not a fan of the film THE WILD GEESE, but the book is excellent and could be fleshed out into a first class piece of cinema dripping drama and pathos. Guy Ritchie ain't the man to do it, though.
I think it's the principle of Mockney pastiche nobody trying to touch the stilted British 70s caper heritage he owes his career to. I don't think much of Wild Geese either, but Ritchie is already turning Holmes into a fighting American with a six pack (and Watson into metrosexual Jude Law) which just goes to show how much integrity and respect the "guv'nor" has for old fashioned, home grown brands.
A friend of mine and I do joke about a Wild Geese remake, just because now they'd have to have Daniel Craig in it and a bunch of current, worn out UK actors. I wonder if we'll see one of these Steve Martin Pink Panther films where Clouseau has plastic surgery and is played by Daniel Craig in a cameo filmed in one day.

Form? What form?!I thought ROCK N ROLLA was thankfully a return to form...

Anyway, isn't Guy Ritchie supposed to be ruining Zencat's 'Sgt. Rock' script next?

Totally agree. Ritchie is a cheap, classless director. He'd be a disaster for Bond. And Rock N Rolla was trash; a clumsy re-working of Lock Stock and Snatch. Junk film. Junk director.

The original WILD GEESE was a lot of fun, but far from the pinnacle of anyone's career. I'd be quite interested in seeing what would be done with a group of present day mercenaries. First of all, who would get cast?

Hmmm. I have to say that I really enjoy Guy Ritchie's movies. I'm pretty sure his name is attached to many projects, so I'd be surprised if this was the one that eventually got made.

Guaranteed: most everyone who passed on THE EXPENDABLES.

Where does this Wild Geese news come from? I haven't heard this.
