Anybody else a big fan of Matt Monro's On Days Like These?

I've been playing it a lot lately.

I'm not the biggest fan of Monro's FRWL, maybe a little too over the top for my tastes I guess.

But On Days Like These is just so perfect.

Funny you should mention this because I've been listening to the "English Frank Sinatra" a lot recently!

I am a big fan of this song. I love the Italian lyrics - very seductive.
I also love his song, Don't Lose The Feeling, for the notorious Michael Caine film, Ashanti.

I find it interesting that On Days Like These lyricist, Don Black was Matt Monro's manager and song finder. Monro did beautiful performances of lovely John Barry songs like Walkabout, Wednesday's Child.

Oh, and I just discovered that my mother is friendly with Matt Monro's widow as they have been going to the same hairdressing salon for years! She only just casually threw this into conversation the other day!

Absolutely agree!

Yeah, when I saw The Italian Job, I had to listen to it three or four times, I liked it so much. It also went well in setting up the scene. It's a good, solid song.

Matt Monro has recorded a version of it.

How comes it's not referenced in the discography?

Love it. I have a scrapbook of certain things and whenever I look through it, that's the song that plays in my mind.

Count me as a fan of the song, and Matt Monro. IMO he was the other side of what was so good about that whole "Swingin' London" period and "On Days Like These" is a tremendous song. Probably Monro's last hurrah as a major recording artist. I love the sadness he brought to almost everything he did; his rendition of "Autumn Leaves" is a killer.

And wasn't Matt Munro an ex bus conductor given a singing break via a television talent show...?

I neglected to mention that IMO the song as it appears in the opening credits doesn't work too well, probably because I heard the song a long time before I saw the Italian Job, so I guess I developed my own associations with the song some time before.

On Days like These is a great song. I could use a little more Monro in my collection now that I think of it...
