I still own all the Bonds on Special Edition VHS - I've toyed with getting rid of them, but they were the first format I owned the movies on. I'd never watch any of them, but I'm a bit sentimental; am I alone?

I'm with you on that one. I remember getting every one of my VHS copies and couldn't part with the memories associated with them.

And I. My VHS machine died a few years ago and I couldn't see the point in getting another (given that I don't have a television) but I still can't part with the Bond tapes.
I have a very blonde friend, who a couple of weeks ago saw a good collection of second-hand VHS tapes, bought them and when she got them home, couldn't work out why she couldn't play them. On her DVD player...

I still have all the Bond films up to TND on VHS - but no VCR any more. I do sometimes have a moment of appreciation when thinking about how I used to watch these grainy old tapes on tiny CRT TVs.... now its all HD and Blu-Ray. I really dont' miss rewinding (sometimes the rentals would come un-rewound :( ). Rentals used to be really poor quality so often - damaged tapes and all that. I don't miss it, but there's plenty of nostalgia.

VHS is slowly becoming the equivalent of super-8mm movies for our generation. As far as I know pretty much all of the manufactures will stop producing blank VHS tapes next year. DVD and DVR are the new way.

Lately for myself, I've been gainfully employed doing transfers of VHS to DVD for private parties. A lot of people want their vast libraries transferred but don't have the time. That's were I've come in. I've been doing a lot of transfers since the holidays. Right now I'm working through a client's 3500+ vault of tapes. I've also got a guy with a 30 years worth of stock/filler footage - THAT is going to be eight months of work.

I still have yet to transfer most of my own VHS, Hi-8, S-VHS and LD's - about 3200 or so at last tally - "Bryce's Video Vault" (and that's not even counting the pørn :( )

Hang on to you beloved copies of anything (especially Bond) even if you have DVD's. Also, some titles have yet to make it to the web or DVD yet and rarely turn up on cable.

Between my video and first run Star Wars toys, Ebay is part of my retirement Villa plan along with my IRA. One man's trash can be another's treasure.

Yes, VHS will still linger around for years though. Just not many.

We don't have a working VCR in the house, so we can't watch VHS anymore. I've still got a lot of tapes, but I can't watch them. I'm very slowly in the process of replacing them with DVDs. Most of mine have no sentimental value to me, so I have no compunctions about getting rid of them. But I know what you mean. We had a garage sale last summer, and I decided to sell all my Bond novels, since they'd been replaced by the Penguin editions. By the end of the day, I was so relieved when they hadn't sold. :(

Sure, I have some vhs cassettes left in my old room at my parents house.

It's been some time I actually sat down and watched them. I think the last one was the first Austin Powers film, that I watched last year, when visiting them.

I wish I had an vhs player, so I could watch some of my old tapes. Just for the old tv ads from 80's and 90's :(

Be careful with that....

Several years ago, when we still had a working VCR, I read The Bourne Identity for the first time, in preparation for the upcoming movie. After I finished it, I found Dad's old tape of the miniseries, that he had recorded when it originally aired. As I was watching, a weather report started scrolling across the bottom of the screen. Naturally, I wanted to know what kind of severe weather to expect, so I was reading it. All of a sudden it hit me: this weather bulletin was 13 years old, and for a city 200+ miles away. :)

I've just started to watch and buy VHS now. I find the quality is vastly superior to my Beta machine (yes, I know they were last year's must-have) and watching RETURN OF THE JEDI on one of these new CBS FOX edition video cassettes (complete with reversible cover) really does bring the cinema right into my lounge.

Yes, I find it very useful for movies that don't exist on DVD!

I still have VHS tapes from when I was six!!! We can't get rid of them, so we kept them. Also, there're several VHS tapes that haven't been transferred to DVD yet (Gone with the Wind), so I watch it on VHS.
