[Bond Bug]

Not sure about Hugh Laurie.

He couldn't do the American accent. Before House he played a lot of weak characters.

I'm thinking maybe Lee Evans. He would bring a nervous energy as a frantic scatty inventor type. He would provide comic relief to lighten up the very serious Mr Craig.

Maybe he was a backroom boy who doesn't get out much or mix with others much, but has developed many great gadgets over the years and finally he has been promoted to the Q position.

Why does Q have to be played by an eccentric orientated actor? (!). That was not really the way Desmond Llewelyn played it so why would someone else need to do so in this very non-eccentric Daniel Craig era?

You're right. I really don't know where the perception that Q was an eccentric character came from. All I saw was a genius inventor who took pride in his work. Maybe sometimes too enthusiatically(given that he was building weapons essentially) but people act like Desmond was playing a mad wizard.
