Great news but why the long wait? Why not late 2009 instead of early 2010?

Same thought here. Can't wait to read these final volumes. I just hope APE will be the complete international version.

I'm assuming the rights issues must be coming into play here somehow. The "James Bond Omnibus" coming out this September is likely a filler of some sort since they're hoping for an early 2010 release for this collection.

Will make for a nice and complete collection.

It appeals to the completist in me.

I'd like to know the real reason behind these rights issues. The copyright belongs to Glidrose (IFP) and ENL and if it really were about rights, none of the other volumes would've seen the light of day. James Page at mi6.co.uk says it's an aspect to one of the stories but he's not telling which. Knowing little about these stories, the only thing I can think of is the fact that HOT-SHOT incorporates unused elements from the DAF script that later showed up in TSWLM but if it were for that, most of the 70's and 80's films rip ideas off these strips.
GIRL MACHINE was skipped straightaway with TROUBLE SPOT announcing PHOENIX PROJECT as the followup, which means they couldn't get all the materials back then. PHOENIX, however, originally advertised NIGHTBIRD as the followup and the book was even available for pre-order for a short time before it was decided to carry on with DEATHWING, meaning Titan got all the materials for this collection and were prevented from publishing it by a third party.

I've never purchased any of the Titan comics. A few days ago, for the first time, I found a bookstore that was selling them where I live. They had a decent selection, maybe 4-5 Fleming adaptations and 4-5 original stories. I didn't have much time to browse through them, but it was the first time I ever saw them sold where I live.

Are they worth purchasing, especially the original storylines? I'm tempted, but they're about 24$ a pop, so I don't want to make a bad investment.

They're worth getting. If $24 a pop is too much, try Amazon.ca.

Indeed. Amazed (in both an incredulous and happy way) to see that they continued on and on to re-release the entire series.

Forbidden Planet lists it as available from January 28th onwards. I guess that's the real UK street date.

Just got Nightbird. Couple surprises here that haven't been reported on. First, cover art is different. Also, the collection includes 12 strips of an unpublished/unfinished story called, War Cloud.

What I found interesting is that they were able to unearth sample strips from other artists and WAR CLOUD from the archive but not the original strips to replace the ones that look like crap.

Interesting that the super weapon in Hotshot (the "hotshot") is pretty much the same thing as Graves' space weapon in DAD, except the hotshot sits on a supertanker and is controlled by Doctor No (yes, Doctor No). Henry Kissinger is in the mix. The Bond Girl is a Palestine Freedom Fighter (Bond's words). These strips are a gas.

Finished the Nightbird story. Really great fun. I love the more fantastical strips, and this is definitely one of those. Excellent locations and set-pieces. This is shaping up to be one of the better collections.

Not read any of the Bond comic strips before - are these original strips worth tracking down?

Well, I like 'em (obviously). They are not masterpieces, but they are fun, and I like how they offer up an alternate 70s/80s James Bond universe.

I also like them. These are far superior to the original stories in the Scandinavian comics, which generally are very silly.
