Great news but why the long wait? Why not late 2009 instead of early 2010?
I'm assuming the rights issues must be coming into play here somehow. The "James Bond Omnibus" coming out this September is likely a filler of some sort since they're hoping for an early 2010 release for this collection.
I'd like to know the real reason behind these rights issues. The copyright belongs to Glidrose (IFP) and ENL and if it really were about rights, none of the other volumes would've seen the light of day. James Page at mi6.co.uk says it's an aspect to one of the stories but he's not telling which. Knowing little about these stories, the only thing I can think of is the fact that HOT-SHOT incorporates unused elements from the DAF script that later showed up in TSWLM but if it were for that, most of the 70's and 80's films rip ideas off these strips.
GIRL MACHINE was skipped straightaway with TROUBLE SPOT announcing PHOENIX PROJECT as the followup, which means they couldn't get all the materials back then. PHOENIX, however, originally advertised NIGHTBIRD as the followup and the book was even available for pre-order for a short time before it was decided to carry on with DEATHWING, meaning Titan got all the materials for this collection and were prevented from publishing it by a third party.
