I haven't seen everything he did, but he definitely made his mark with me in Secret Agent and The Prisoner. Also Ice Station Zebra and Columbo.

I loved the fact that, every second he was onscreen, you could almost feel his character's mind working. Much of the time he played things low-key, and yet he projected a huge inner life for his characters. (Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes also had that quality--you always knew the wheels were turning.)

McGoohan and Montalban both. Rough day.

R.I.P. . . .

What an intense actor! He never seemed comfortable in his own skin and that radiated like mad onscreen; he was never less than mesmerizing to watch.

Funny thing- I was listening to the Prisoner soundtrack that very morning and was already in a Prisoner mood the previous week...

I'm a big fan of both Danger Man and The Prisoner -- he will be missed!

What a sad day. We've lost a truly fascinating actor and man.

The Prisoner is simply one of the greatest shows of all time and one that will last forever. It always seems to remain fresh whereas I have tired of shows like The Avengers in recent years.

I loved the fact that, every second he was onscreen, you could almost feel his character's mind working. Much of the time he played things low-key, and yet he projected a huge inner life for his characters. (Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes also had that quality--you always knew the wheels were turning.)

That's one of the things I loved about him and the character of Drake/No. 6. It's what makes him my favorite of the classic '60s TV spies. With Napoleon Solo of UNCLE or Steed of The Avengers, although I love both characters, you got the sense they were more about style. With Drake/No. 6 it was all about the professionalism and the job.

He had morals in an unmoral profession - never carried a gun unless necessary and never kissed women onscreen. And the clipped way of speaking was also unique.

It made for a fascinating character and had me thinking today what a McGoohan version of Bond may have turned out like.
