Elmer Bernstein's score for the 1974 adventure movie Gold, starring Roger Moore is now available in a limited edition (3000 copies) over at Intrada. Sound samples, too. It sounds kind of TMWTGG-ish and is probably how an Elmer Bernstein Bond score may have sounded. Catchy theme song that weaves its way through the underscore. I've never seen the film, but I like Bernstein's music as a rule.

I've yet to come across a decent DVD of the movie for that to ever happen in any form.

Of course it's not. The release is part of a deal with UMG, which a ) limits the release to 3000 copies and b ) only allows for a re-release of the original LP, nothing more, nothing less. They couldn't even re-order the tracks, not to mention expand it. BTW, there's not much to expand upon really.

According to his autobio, Roger owns the negative. I'm surprised he hasn't contracted with some company to release a clean widescreen transfer with some extras.

Wasn't the UK DVD release last year supposed to be fairly good quality?

Been listening to GOLD a lot recently and track #2, "The Lovers" has got to be one of Elmer Bernstein's loveliest melodies; it would be right at home in any Roger 007 film, particularly OCTOPUSSY.

The CD is still available and well worth acquiring. It's as close to Bond music as non-Bond music can get without being a parody or homage. The title song is memorable and lots of fun, like Bond title songs used to be.
