I just checked out his website- great artist! I especially liked the b&w pieces based on classic sci-fi movies. He captured an eerie Val Lewton meets the Twilight Zone kind of tone. I think a Bond anthology of b&w short stories (ala Batman Black and White) would be really fun.
A collection of short stories would be awesome. I don't mean to knock Benson, but his shorts were a little too... frivolous to me. It's a shame that Charlie doesn't write some while he's "taking some time away."

that being said - why did they pick Faulks? to make a splash? since he doesn't write in the thriller genre and he said from the get-go that he was one and done - i can't believe that IFP didn't have a second author lined up to pick up the series if it was a hit - so they could have a new novel out in '09.
Per Lucy Fleming, Faulks was just a one-up for the 100th and now they want to take a break from all the literary releases (Bond, Young Bond, Moneypenny).
However, she did say they have other projects in the works.
I get the feeling they want to keep a low profile this year to allow room for the Cubby Broccoli 100th celebrations that will be coming up both in the UK and USA.

That said, I'm almost always wrong about this sort of thing.

i can't believe with all of the hype over Faulks and DMC and the sales that they's take a step back for a few years.

I think it just worked out that they have a release free year in 2009. Remember, Charlie Higson said the reason they published two YB books in 2007 was because he finished one early because he had other projects to do. That means the original one-a-year plan would have seen BRC published in 2009.
Well it won't be release-free. New stuff in the US plus a new push for YB over here. I'm also expecting Blood Fever: The Graphic Novel towards the end of the year for the UK (obvious speculation on my part).
2008 was a huge year and 2007 as you noted was "special". 2 good years; I think we're spoiled now that 2009 seems more typical.

your notion is fantastic! I agree, but who would author the Quantum Files?

Craig's Bond is an extremely interesting character, seeing as how for the first time in the history of the franchise, (according to their 'Bond Dossier' that used to be on the CR website, although doesn't appear to be anymore) Danjaq hasn't made any effort to pretend that this is a guy who fought in the Cold War. This Bond has a whole new history to him, and I would love to see that explored in a medium other than cinema and videogames.
Probably a pipe-dream though and the two different styles would inevitably cause confusing clashes on the consumer market; but I think it would be worth it. Here's to hoping!
