I know he was SAS before being a double-0, but is he a commander or have some other rank?
Did I miss such detail in CR?
If anyone could clarify this for me I'd be quite thankful.
Cheers.

Sadly not. Thanks for the help. That's what I heard as well, but it still hasn't been mentioned in the Craig movies, right?

I wish they would show us Craig's Bond in his Royal Navy uniform. That would be awesome!
Now that would be a fine touch indeed.

Yes. If not, someone could at least call him "Commander Bond".I wish they would show us Craig's Bond in his Royal Navy uniform. That would be awesome!
It would be nice if they could include a Navy ship or a submarine in Bond 23 since we have not seen these things for a while.

In the Craig's movies (particularly in CR) isn't that clear that he was in the SAS, what Vesper said is that he looks like a former SAS TYPE, not that he's in fact a former SAS. He could be, but he could be not too, and I don't care about OO7 dossier on the web, I only care of what appears on the movies.

Exactly.
And I'll have to re-watch CR then. Always nice to have a good excuse to watch it yet again.

Daniel Craig is playing James Bond, and James Bond is a Commander in the British Royal Navy. It means he can may command a frigate, destroyer, submarine, aviation squadron or shore installation, or serve on a staff. And yes, I’d like to see him in the uniform and referred to as such in a future film.
That doesn't necessarily follow; the Craig films are a separate continuity from the books and from the previous films (which were already separate themselves; e.g Bond's 1st in Oriental Languages mentioned in YOLT); nothing is an established fact until it's mentioned on-screen. Besides, the Navy background was more relevant given the literary character and Fleming's own WWII origins; in the modern world an S.A.S background is much more credible IMO.

This is something that always bothered me. Continuity and consistency don't mean jack in a Bond movie and as annoying as it is, to some extent, I applaud the series for having the balls to not really care about such obvious errors.

I don't think you're interpreting that scene the right way. Bond wanted to message the two governments quickly because the clock was ticking. Even if Bond was fluent, a native Chinese speaker would be able to type the message much faster using that keyboard than a non-native speaker regardless of whether the non-native speaker was fluent.About Bond's 1st in Oriental languages...in TND when Bond and Wai Lin are in Lin's make shift command centre, he says something about how he'll send the message to both the British and Chinese governments via computer. He has one look at the keyboard and then changes his mind, indicating he hasn't the slightest clue, what the letterings mean.

i can do w/o him in uniform - but it would be nice to see him on a ship again or someone call him Commander.

I've always thought that Moore's Bond was more obviously presented as a Commander (in how he was portrayed) than any of the other Bond's.

This was explained in the novelization, I believe. The story is that Bond exaggerated about his First in Oriental to impress Moneypenny.
As a side note, thats one aspect of Bond's personality I always liked: that he'll "exaggerate" to impress a girl or "cheat" by reading an article about lepidoptry just to impress the boss. Makes him seem more human, thug in a suit after all.

Actually, SBS, not SAS.
SAS = Special Air Service (I believe this is part of the British Army)
SBS = Special Boat Service (I believe this is part of the British Navy)

Yes, you nailed it. At least that's what they say here, I'm no expert

I'm all for Craig's Bond being shown in his uniform. I would love for it to appear in the next film but at the same time, I REALLY want Craig to ski..
Yes, there are two thing I'd love to occur in the Craig era; a snow bound Bond and for Bond to wear a black stealth suit like Connery in Goldfinger, Dalton in The Living Daylights and Brosnan in GoldenEye. It'd be neat to see him do a controlled mission to show that Bond has evolved from the blunt instrument now that we are done with the CR-QOS story ark.

Any thoughts?
Personally, I think Craig-Bond can pull off anything.

Yes, in the dossier it did say SBS which is the sister unit to the SAS. They take care of maritime courter terrorism but they are also very well trained on land. They have done missions in Afghanistan ie "Battle of Tora Bora" where some commando's were after Bin Laden around the Khyber Pass in 2001. They are probably still in regions of Afghanistan now.
I'd say a good equivalent would be the Navy Seals because they need to be such good swimmers.

Anyone think it would be cool to see Bond joining up with an SBS unit to take on some Somali pirates?
Well, ther's an idea, but IMO Somali pirates are not Bond Villain standard... It may be funnier in the end (and maybe more Bond-style) to see Bond joining up with Somali pirates to take on the Villain's yacht.
