Fascinating interview. A lot of James Bond in George Lazenby!
Listening to him talk about his time in London and how as a complete novice he walked through the competition to grab the biggest film part in the world, I think it's worth looking at the photo below to bear in mind why that happened.

A very atmospheric, moody shot. Terribly Bond-like, just what producers were looking for at that time. Lazenby had a most impressive physicalness, very much what the role called for. I can understand why he was chosen. Sad, that his acting was so limited, his experience in business affairs so lacking. I'd have preferred some other name, perhaps McGoohan, but I can see why EON hired Lazenby.

Has anyone ever seen the pre-Bond series of Italian TV adverts with Maud Adams that he mentioned?
I thought the story of his crossing the ocean to be with the girl out of his league, only to drink and gamble away everything on the ship and find out she'd hooked up with someone else when he arrived, was like an episode Fleming might have written.
I also hadn't realised he'd been a sniper.
