Cary Grant's real name is Archibald Leach which is suspiciously like Bond's cover name in CASINO ROYALE, Arlington Beech. Anyone else think there is anything to this?

Eh?!

I never noticed that before. It could well be.

Grant was a close friend of Cubby Broccoli, so... who knows? Good attention to detail, McC

That is definitely a possibility. I never looked at that before, but as far as I know Cary Grant was one of Fleming's top choices for Bond, although in the end deemed too old to play the role (leading to the casting of Sean Connery), so it's probable that the producers wanted to pay tribute to him through the name.

It would be interesting to know who came up with the name.

If it was any of the writers I'd say it was just pulled out of the air, and I wouldn't give any of them that much credit for it. If it was either Micky G or Babs then perhaps there's a remote possibility.

Could be a coincidence but they sure do sound alike.

I thought the only reason Grant didn't play the role was not because he was too old, but because he wouldn't agree to a multi-picture deal? I think they mention that in the DR. NO documentary.

You're right. Grant would only commit to doing Dr. No and the producers needed somebody for multiple films.

If they wanted to do a tribute, why not just use the actual name?
