In Casino Royale the novel, Vesper's betrayal and suicide gives Bond a renewed sense of his mission
He decides to go after the people that matter..."the people behind the spies" (quoting from memory).
This happens rather quickly - by the end of the chapter!
I think QoS is this final chapter of Fleming's CR - its the character arc that gets Bond to this point of prefessionalism.
He starts the film off-balance, full of anger and guilt, and he goes after Quantum to get to Yusef (though he might not admit that to himself, let alone M).
But through the film, and in particular his interaction with Matthis and Camille, he learns that "the dead don't care about revenge".
By the end of the film he has Yusef, and doesn't kill him - Yusef doesn't matter. It's the people behind Yusef, Quantum, that he has to go after. "The people that make them spy"
Bond has found his Quantum of Solace - his sense of mission. He "never left".
By this reading, the whole film is grounded in Fleming!
