When Bond goes into General Medrano's room after Camille has killed Medrano, the room is ablaze and CAmille is cowering in the corner. The scene plays out like this: As Bond holds Camille, she wimpers about what he told her about how to kill but also says something about not wanting it to end "like this" which I assume is to die in the fire. Bond reaches down and picks up her gun. Bond looks around the room at the blaze. He holds her a bit and then says "Close your eyes". It's at that point that some tile work falls down and exposes one of the fuel cells, which he then shoots and blows open the wall. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but was Bond at a point where he felt theer was no escpae and was ready to shoot her (and possibly himself) to avoid dying in the fire? I've watched it twice and I'm sure the fuel cell doesn't show up until after he tells her to close her eyes.

Yes, he was.

Yeah, Bond was ready to kill Camille. Pretty great moment, honestly (especially with the parallels to CASINO ROYALE's shower scene).

This was such a beatiful moment, sad of course, but Craig sold it. You actually believe Bond is going to do it, the second time I watched the movie this sequence actually made me mist up.

I thought that it was an interesting moment, and one of the stronger moments of acting in the film. It's daring moments like this that separates Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale from the rest of the Bond films.

I will be honest, though, I didn't catch this when I saw the film. It was only after reading someone else's thoughts on the scene and then going back over the scene in my mind that I figured out that this was what was going on. Can't wait to see the film again to see the film knowing what was happening in the scene.

Especially after the context of the character's journey from CASINO ROYALE to QUANTUM OF SOLACE, where he's just lost one gal after another.

I remember once upon a time Brosnan said of Bond that he was a man who was always one step ahead of death. He knew that he'd die eventually so he lived life accordingly. You only got hints of that from his performance (I'm sure he would have loved to played that aspect up), but with Craig you get that in spades.

There is a very underlying sadness to the way he behaves in QoS (in CR he is actually happy, so you don't really see it). It's this portrayal that I love and hope to see more of it in future Craig performances.

I noticed that as well. I think that Craig's performance in this film might actually be better than the one he gave in CR, which was just about as good of bringing a literary character to life as I've ever seen. As you said, hopefully we'll see more of this in future performances by Craig as it was so effective in QoS.

Since I made reference to Brosnan up thread I would just like to say that Hotel scene in TND was a great moment. The underlying sadness that Craig displayed in QoS is very prsent in this small scene. Bond's just been hurt, he's sitting in his hotel expecting death to be knocking at his door...and how does he meet it? With a silenced PPK and a bottle of Vodka. I wish they had developed moments like that further.

No, I'm not trying to take the thread off track, but I thought I'd throw a shout out to Brosnan just in case people didnt think I was dogging him again :(

Yes, it's a good scene that one from the hotel in TND, but it's dramatic punch is pretty much ruined, by the all festive car chase scene that folow. I mean it happens just too soon after Paris Carver's death, to be believable and coherent.

It made me think.. what if the tile work had not fall down?

I thought he was going to kill both of them with one shot.
