Although Quantum doesn't even come close to Casino Royale, I still enjoyed it. When I heard it doesn't cross the 2hr run time, I was afraid it would go too fast. Instead, I thought it dragged in some parts. Dominic Greene was lame, as far as Bond villains go. Good to see the development of Bond over the course of the film, being more judgement in his kills. Also good to see the development of his relationship with Felix.
If it wasn't so drastically different from CR, stylistically (right down to the gritty cinematography), you could easily inserted a "Moments Later" inter-title after Bond shoots Mr White and then continued with the opening of QoS.
What's with Fields' itty-bitty raincoat in a hot South American country? I kept waiting for the punchline, like "I forgot my trousers. She seriously looked naked underneath it.
Nice to finally see a proper Craig gunbarrel! A nice bookend to complete Casino Royale II. On to Bond 23--hope they open finally with the gunbarrel!
Issues:
- The script was really weak. Granted, it was an admitted (by Paul Haggis) half-baked script. It just seemed very flat. I tell ya, this was not the film I was expecting after seeing the really well-done trailers.
- Way too much emphasis on graphic design. Distracting! The location inter-titles were too much for me. The computer graphics at MI6 were over-designed. I will say the (boring) opening titles made the profoundly mediocre title song bearable.
- The action was hard to follow, way too many close-up shots.
- Olga is a world away from Eva, acting-wise. Sexier, though.
Thank goodness Marc Forster isn't doing the next one. Not the right fit for Bond.
