Did Bond understand his conversation with Gemma, it appeared that he did, the way he laughed at her line about the cheap wine.
Do we know if Bond speaks Italien?

He's Bond. Of course he undersands her. But according to Fleming, Bond speaks french and German as his secondary languages. The movie Bond speaks alot more than that.

Sorry for having to do this again, but the title of the thread is already a spoiler. If I hadn't seen the film yet, I might not want to even know there is a scene in which Bond is at Mathis' villa. So 'Bond at...' might be more appropriate.

Yes but it is in the spoiler section. If somebody doesn't want to know anything about the movie before they see it, then they shouldn't click on the SPOILERS section.
