It picks up right where Casino left us and like Kill Bill vol 2 it's different from part 1 but just as good.Yes, I said it. QOS is every bit as good as Casino Royale. It's actually superior in some ways. The pacing, the action, the locales are all upgraded. The only thing that doesn't work for me was the parachute jump and that's because of the CGI/green screen treatment that feels like a Brosnan era moment but it's so short and I can forgive one slip up. There are no other issues for me to bitch about(ok, I'm sure a few will pop up eventually). This is a great James Bond movie and I'm one happy fan.
The scenery is georgous. The women are georgous. The discarding of the cliches and the low key score are a strength not a liability.Mathis is fantastic. I really wish he could be in '23.
Daniel Craig owns the role. He's like the CEO of the company now after starting in the mail room. A total badass Bond who could wipe the floor with any of his predeccessors while drinking a cold beer at the same time.
And...I didn't feel like I just saw The Bourne Solace-itation. I didn't feel like a ripoff at all. And I love Bourne. Anyway, I'll collect my thoughts and post more later while I digest this latest entry of my favorite series. This is a terrific Bond film.Spend your money on this movie and you won't be dissapointed().
Keep up the good work Eon.Please get the next one out in 2010.

I'm firmly in this camp.
It's so much more fun in this camp. Our girls are prettier and we have better booze than the negative camp.

Seriously. The other camp just sits around, moaning "The cuts were too quick." "There was no Shaken not Stirred" "I couldn't figure out why Camille thought Bond was hitman" "Did I remember to drink my ENSURE this morning?"

Pure class Kristian. Anyone who doesn't like the film must be old and retarded, eh?

oh don't behave. We like the turbo bitch version of Kristian-she's a riot.
Thanks, TC. You're simply fab. But I'm just kind of worried that the OTHER CAMP is getting a little Machiavellian with their tactics. I see some MEN IN BLANK lurking on the street below, going through my garbage. Think they've found me. One of them is holding up a sign that says: THE BITCH MUST DIE. Think they mean me?
Be careful. Watch your back. Warn the others in our camp. They're picking us off, one by one. Save yourself.

Thank you, DDSPY. I pride myself on being classy. And to answer you question... well... yes.
Kidding, my good friend. Relax, drink, procreate. Before you know it, The next Bond film be here for us to savage each other over.

Good riddance to the cliches.
Exactly. It was the cliches that were causing the series to decay. These days, when I aske someone if they're going to see QOS they say "Oh, yeah!." Compare that to Brosnan's run, when they would roll their eyes. Sure, those PB flicks still made money, but they were on borrowed time. Disillusionment and derision was starting to spread. I have a feeling that if Brosnan would have stayed for another formula Bond film, it would've been the LTK situation in 1989 all over again. Another flop. Another gap in movies. Another threat to the series.
The Broccollis did the best thing they could do to keep the franchise chugging forward. And Daniel Craig is the best thing to happen to the franchise since Sean Connery. And QOS is a breath of fresh, fresh, air.

Agree with all of that. We have two consecutive high quality 007 films in a row. It's a great time to be a Bond fan.

aw shucks.
I really need to see this again. Maybe monday night...Bond is back with a vengence!
Glad you liked it. I actually think the action scenes out did Bourne for the sheer adreniline that pump through them and how the dogfight comes out of nowhere during a nice dialog scene between Camille and Bond, and I wouldn't mind to see them have a off and on relationships with each other since they really are similar and they would know it could not be permanent in future Bond films. When they switch hotels and Bond utters the
Spoilerline I thought I was watching an early Connery movie. Was it just me or wasn't Bond in this movie much more suave especially how he readjusts his tux afterSpoiler, pure Bond. I also thought the movie was perfectly paced since it felt more like a 2 hour movie rather than a 1 hr 46 film and I thought the editing was marvolous. Plus I thought this film did not need a opening gunbarrell since that opening shot really set the tone of the film and for me and was the best opening shot in the series in my opinon. I agree that the score is very effective and added tension and I thought it was David Arnold most original Bond score since its so different from his usual Bond scores. I have seen it twice already and plan on seeing it again during Thanksgiving weekend which will be the most times I have seen a Bond film in the theatre however its only the second Bond film I have seen in theatres.
well said; I too love the opening shot. And Craig was awesome. I wasn't drinking the koolaide before but now...bottoms up! His suits are better too. He looks taller and sleaker than he did in CR.

Yeah, when Bond and Camille are talking and the plane is flying and then, WHAM, they're shot at from nowhere. Even though I knew it must be coming at some point, I nearly jumped out of my seat - I was startled, and that RARELY happens to me in a movie.

For me, it was when Slate bursts out of the bedroom in the Haiti hotel suite and attacks Bond. I actually jumped in my seat. Never happened before. I was never bored throughout QOS. I was kind of bored, however, during CASINO ROYALE.
That's my barometer right there.

I jumped too, since I thought the insert shot of the knife opening was Bond opening the kife but it really is Slate plus this has to one of the most realistic fights on screen because of the brutal strength between the two and the fact that Bond watches Slate die also made it more real. The angle on Slate's dead body with those eyes added to the realisim and reminded me of the end of the Grant fight from FRWL. I was intitally worried about the climax at the eco hotel since it would seem like a standard Bond climax but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and I would say I would be hard pressed to find a better climax. Did anyone else notice how the ending Yusef confrontation is similar to the CR pretitle sequence since Bond is waiting for Dryden/Yusef in the dark, gets the attention of both when they enter the room, talks to both in leading to a potential kill (Dyrden saying "The second is... line, and Yusef saying "make it quick"), and the only difference is Bond does not kill Yusef thus showing us that Bond now sees the big picture and won't kill anyone unless he has too especially if he needs information from that person. I also thought that this movie protrayed the spy game in a more technical way in making more realisticl. I felt Bond was doing stuff that an actual spy would do and this reminded me of some political thrillers like The Day of the Jackal. What I really loved was the imagery espcially when Bond and Camille drive through the desert to the airplane hanger, and when he walks up to the hanger with a bloody stained suit with the beautiful desert and a DC3 in the background. I also dislike reviews who keep saying this is a revenge film when its not because I never thought Bond was seeking revenge but just looking for answers so he can get his Quantum of Solace and I think Bond 23 won't have to focus on Bond but on the mission at hand but I still feel they should show Bonds flaw's like him not liking ugly kills like the Fisher killing from CR.
