I'm still confused about one thing. In CR, Le Chiffre says that "Your friend Mathis is really our friend Mathis." So Bond, and we, expect that Mathis told Le Chiffre about the tell. Now, in QOS, we find that Mathis was innocent.
Two questions: Why did Le Chiffre lie? and Who told Le Chiffre about the tell? (It surely wasn't Vesper, was it?)

Vesper told Le Chiffre about his tell, because she was blackmailed by Mr. White to prevent Bond from winning.
Le Chiffre lied to Bond about Mathis being HIS friend because he wanted to make Bond even more desperate for the following torture scene: No Mathis, no chance for rescue.

Yeah. Vesper was the rat, not Mathis.
