Some very nice ideas here.
My two pence worth: Bond spends two thirds of the film following a deliberately set false trail, while we see the real threat developing. Tension builds,by the time Bond finds out what is really going on the clock is really ticking and it's a race against time.
Sorry if that's a little vague, but it's late,I'm tired and there is still so much to be done...
I like the idea in theory, but I think it'd be incredibly dull if we watched the threat develope while Bond was going in another direction. A bit Pink Panther don't you think?
I'd love your idea, but let us find out Bond is going down the wrong path the same time Bond does, make it be a big "WTF" moment. I've always felt that if we know more than the main character it makes the film a bit dull (YOLT comes to mind).
Having us too far ahead of Bond runs the risk of making Bond look stupid. We should never be too much smarter than the hero of a movie. Enough to create suspense, but not enough for us to throw our Raisinets at the screem while yelling, "WAKE UP, GODDAMNIT!!!!!"
Good points both. I agree that it would be better if we were sold the dummy the same way Bond is and the revelation occurs simultaneously for Bond and the viewer. A better development. Otherwise it could indeed be more annoying than tense. Pink Panther indeed,if not pantomime..."Behind you!!" Back to the drawing board...
Oh and I for one lamented the lack of double taking pigeons in QOS. Maybe they should have a double crossing pigeon?
Did John Glenn inspire John Woo's white doves?
