Bond IS NOT out for revenge. Quantum of Solace is much more than that.

Bond wants to find the people responsible for Vespers death, he is not doing it FOR Vesper, He's doing it for himself to find his quantum of solace. Of course, Vesper is on Bonds mind. But revenge takes a back seat in this. Everyone else thinks he's gone off the rails and is killing every possible lead because he feels like it.... which is not true.

He kills Slate in self defence.
He does throw Haines' bodyguard of a roof but he questions him first.


As Bond says in The Spy Who Loved Me - "It was either him or me" - which goes for Quantum of Solace too.

Sorry for this rant, it's just that the reviews have annoyed me when they say that Bond has turned into a charmless killing machine. Some of them don't realise that the situation he is in causes him to react how he does.

This is very questionable.

He's a professional, supposed to be trained for that, so he could be better at making useful prisoners. 'K, maybe he didn't have much choice or chance to shoot without killing for Mitchell, but about Slate, he could have done better if he wanted to. And do you consider a very reasonable questioning just asking one question to a guy before throwing him down a roof, without even knowing who he is? - oooops! -
No, it seems to me quite clear that, in the begining of the movie, we see the last bits of the "Bond beginnings", with a Bond who makes mistakes. He gets better at his job by the end of the movie.

The Shot from the trailer of Bond stabbing him in the neck with the pen was removed, I wonder if this was intentional. Maybe Bond throws Slate through the window and Slate accidently punchured his own neck with a shard of glass. We sure don't see Bond strike him with a pen.

There's a good chance this film will get parodied in comedy shows where Bond, in any given tv skit, kills anyone for any reason...such as a bartender for puting an olive in his martini or his tailor for not having the vent on his coat the right length.

I think that the pen was there, just the actual striking was removed. If I remember correctly, they just show Bond holding it in till Slate goes out.

, but anyway, a perfect professional would then have tried using life saving techniques on Slate, once he was out of the fight, instead of waiting for him to die. Hell, he was the only lead at the moment!

I think the issue is that when this Bond gets into a fight, he means to put his opponent down asap and by any means necessary. No messing, just kill the guy and get out. Professional.

Just saw it (midnight screening), and I think you're absolutely right. The way Bond behaves in the movie makes perfect sense when you consider the emotional and psychological state he's in after CR (and his state of denial in regards to Vesper). Why more people aren't picking up on that is beyond me.

That said, I enjoyed QoS a lot. But, I didn't quite love it... I'll write my review tomorrow after I catch some sleep.
