First thing this being my first post an all I apolagise for anything that I say that has already been said, there is alot of posts to get through.

OK first part Peirce has said that he feels like he has one more Bond in him, which to me is very good news as he has been the best Bond since Sean Connery, he has that Connery essence about him.

Now onto another subject that has everyone talking "WHO" will play the next Bond, well I have my views on who it should be. Gerard Butler to me is a good looking Bond character and is relitivly unknown so it goes with the Bond tradition of hiring not so Famouse people to play 007, so he has my vote..

But, there was a mistake by the makers of Bond way back in 1995 when they hired a guy that suited Bond down to a T, this guy hasn't even been mentioned as a "possible" Bond but how could he when he played the Bad guy, its non other than Sean Bean.

To Round of in one sentance this topic, my views Gerard Butler for Bond, But it should be Sean Bean.

Totally agree with your opinion on Bean. He coulda been a great James Bond.
The story I heard was that he was hired to play 006 for this very reason, since he had indeed been considered by the filmmakers at one point as a potential 007. I guess that they thought the character of Trevelyan should be as close to James Bond as possible - handsome, womanising, risk-taking, ruthless and of a similar age - to make more believable their initial friendship and their competitive tension. Trevelyan and Bond are essentially the same, except that the former is evil.

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea that Gerard Butler should be the next James Bond. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. He's a terrific actor with a strong screen presence. He also has a great sense of humor which is evident in his interviews, and that would suit his portrayal of Bond well. And naturally, he's attractive--but not in a pretty-boy sort of way. And he's a Scotsman, just like Sean Connery.

It may not be too farfetched that he'll be considered for the role. He's already getting maximum exposure for TOMB RAIDER 2 and Michael Crichton's TIMELINE (both due out next summer, I believe). And when a girlfriend of mine saw him in DRACULA 2000, I jokingly said: "He's going to be the next James Bond. They announced it today." She replied: "Then I guess it's time for me to become a Bond fan."
And sadly, when I asked her what her opinion of Pierce Brosnan was, this was her response: "Eeewww!!! Aging pretty boy!!"

Well, I guess we can' t win them all.

No offense to anyone out there, but forget Hugh Jackman. They should give the role to Mr. Butler.

Clive Owen is the crtic's choice, and he will just be the right age when Brosnan quits. He has experience in that sort of role, is English, has the right voice and looks, and has plenty of experience in gambling scenes having been a croupier in one of his films. As 'The Croupier' was so successful in the USA, his American profile is 'shaping up very nicely.'

I think Hugh Jackman will get the role. He has a few things going for him: 1) The majority of Bond fans (notice I said majority and not all) want him as Bond. 2) He is well known throughout the world. 3) He has expressed interest in doing it. 4) I read somewhere that Eon is considering him.

He does seem like the most likely choice.

You keep saying that the majority of Bond fans want him to be Bond, but whenever we've had disussions in the past that isn't the case at all. Where do you get this claim from? Hugh Jackman may be a contender but I think it's a bit rash to say that the MAJORITY of Bond fans want him.

I've only seen Jackman in two movies, X-MEN and SWORDFISH, and I thought he was as dull as ditchwater in both. And as for his being the popular choice for the next Bond, I've yet to read any support for that view outside CBn forums. Now, I'm not necessarily endorsing Owen either (haven't seen him in anything, for one thing), but I HAVE noticed his name mentioned frequently as a potential 007 on other sites. He would certainly appear to be Harry Knowles' choice, not that that necessarily means anything....

I recommend 'The Croupier' to you Loomis. Owen plays hard man croupier [censored] writer. He wears a dinner jacket, deals in a casino, and proves what a damn good actor he is. Failing that, Gosford Park. As for Jackman, I agree entirely with Loomis. He's just so DULL - he strikes me as a boring, wimpish hollywood prettyboy from what I've seen of him, and any connection of his with the role of Bond is pure folly. From what I've seen of this thread, Jackman hasn't exactly got the 'popular vote' either. I make it 2-1 to Owen.

Apart from Owen, is there anyone else you'd like to see considered as Brosnan's replacement, Bondpurist?

James Purefoy wouldn't be too bad, nor would Jeremy Northam. They're both second choices to Owen though.......
