I have a soft spot for this film :( It is very underrated because it happens to follow OHMSS. The scenes in Amsterdam are terrific and the film has the best dialouge ever in a Bondfilm. It is full with classic scenes.

DAF will always have a special place with me as it was the first Bond film I saw when it was new in the cinema when I was the ripe old age of 5. I didn't understand a lot of it, but it stuck with me.

It was my favorite film for many years and although I know now put several other films above it, it's still a sentimental favorite. Take away the camp and, not unlike MR upon reevaluation, there are some really good scenes and some of the best dialogue in the series.

Reasons why i like this film.

1.Las Vegas-In my opinion one of the best & underrated locations of a bond film.

2.Diamonds Are Forever(Song)-Shirley Bassey's TRUE! signature bond song

3.Soundtrack-One of Barry's most smooth,melodic,& haunting scores

4.Wint & Kidd-Deadly with a bit of comedy mixed in to make for the perfect combination.

This saddens me. :(

All DAF can muster up is 5 posts(3 of them my own) while a Thunderball fan thread can do 6 pages!

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is fun, and that's the best thing I can say about it. It's a lazy flick, but I can't bring myself to dislike it... there's something about the silliness and camp that just brings a smile to my face.

Things I dig:

-Bond's encounter with Marie. Vicious, and one of the darkest ConneryBond moments ever. It's shocking that it would come in this film of all films.
-The title sequence and song. Both are delightfully fun.
-Bond's first encounter with Tiffany. Her changing her wigs and outfits so quickly is a really fun, if ridiculous, idea.
-The elevator fight is wonderful.
-Bond's lines are hilarious in this flick.
-Barry's score is downright terrific.
-The final moment before the end credits is top notch. One of the best closing lines in history.

What Harmsway said.

Connery's final official film is not as bad as people make out. It's a fun, lazy afternoon comic strip. Great fun when you're in the mood for that kind of thing.

I agree. The Bond series is, indeed, a broad church. Although I, personally, would prefer more Quantum of Solaces and less Diamonds...

DAF is a very fun movie. I think Connery is at his most genuinely funniest here of all the Bond movies thus far. I don't know how he does it but he's that bloody good, which is why he's the best Bond. The scenes where Bond pretends to be peter franks and realises that he just killed "james bond" is pure gold.

I greatly enjoy it, and I certainly don't enjoy it in spite of the camp. That would be going against the spirit of it IMO.

It's used to be my least favourite, but sometimes I can really enjoy it. If I'm honest, it's just a ridiculous movie with an afwul script, but it's fun to watch. I like the Las Vegas atmosphere for example. I'm still not a fan of this movie and how it followed the fantastic OHMSS, but it's just good fun to watch. With some good moments.

DAF is legendary. Sean is at his peak here......well not really. But that's what I love about Diamonds. Sean breezes through the film like he's having a blast in the role, and has put YOLT behind him. He doesn't seem to care that he's greyer, and a bit older, he's still formidable.
The Thumper and Bambi scene has always been a favorite, as is the "mountaineering outside the Whytehouse".

Long live Diamonds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the first Bond flick I ever saw in the theatres, so it has a special place in my heart. Connery was the best Bond, his suave, unhurried attitude is great. Wint and Kidd; fabulous. Charles Gray, being that he was first exposure to Bond villain I've measured all others against him, he's urbane, witty, and so obviously superior to 007 that he barely worries about his involvement, of course nothwithstanding that Bond has foiled every SPECTRE plot since Dr. No. Still a fine job, and the lines in this movie were wonderful.

"I'm Plenty."
"But of course you are."
"Your pitiful little island wasn't even threatened"
"One of natures expert killers, Mister Wint."
"One is never too old to learn from a master, Mister Kidd."

Fun for the whole family.

I love Diamonds Are Forever. Even sounds like a shortened version of my mother's name Daphne. :)

The only sucker about this movie is the rather mundane ending on the oil rig.

This was a training period for Roger Moore's Bond. :(

I actually like DAF more than most of Moore's outings. The Ken Adam sets are great, too.

Agreed, for all it's faults it still has many of the classic 60's ingredients in place; design, photography and scoring are all top-notch and there are occasional moments of brilliance. LALD was a big step down from this in my opinion even if DAF itself was a disappointment after OHMSS.

Over the past year I've developed a soft spot for DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. I think it's because it's just a load of fun, despite it being rather silly.

I think the only reason people hate on this one is because it followed OHMSS which was fantastic. DAF is not as bad as people say, yes I prefer the more serious movies (I started with Dalton) but there's nothing wrong with the more fun ones.

I mean Goldfinger was a fun movie too.

I love DAF and think it is vastly underrated.

Sure its not a gritty revenge driven thriller starring Lazenby. But lets get over that to see what it is - the reboot of the Bond films into their essentially comic 70s style.

A Roger Moore film starring a droll, amused and vastly self assured Connery

A fantastic slice of John Barry

A witty (as opposed to smutty) script

With a load of stylish visual touches

Its the epitome of a fun Bond flick

I too adore DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.

Next to YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, it is my favourite Connery.

Why?

I love camp tone of it - camp but slightly malevolent and sadistic. It's a very kinky Bond film. No others are like that.

I love the score - it's real Vegas kitsch mixed with a beautiful Barry / Bassey song and very much of its time.

The cinematography is very rich.

The story is nuts, but the film allows it.

Charles Gray takes camp villainy to its natural conclusion - "right idea, wrong pussy" - SUPERB LINE!!! But he is a nasty sod too - which BLOFELD should always be.

Like all the best Bond films, it is completely of its time. That what makes it enjoyable now.

Yes I agree. I remember someone describing it as "distinctly adult camp" and I really like that description.

Have to see it again. In my memories it was kind of fun but uneven. But I always loved the score and the song.

Maybe it should be required viewing for Bond 23 should they decide to go to the United States again. :(

One of my favorites. It was in my top 5 until CR dumped it. I love Wint & Kidd. I love Bambi & Thumper. I love following the trail of the diamonds all over the world. Great movie.

I think that DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is the worst James Bond movie I have seen hands down. But . . . I still like it, because I think it is also one of the funniest.

There are two things that DAF has going for it - the humor and its accurate portrayal of the crass atmosphere in Las Vegas.

AsDAF was the first Bond film to come out after the I had become a fan, it has a special place in my heart. It was also the first film that I ever followed as it got produced. It was also special as it was one the two 007 films that we watched at my 007 themed bachelor party. (The other was GF.)

I enjoyed it then and I still enjoy it. I actually prefer the lighted Bonds so the tone of this one fit me well. I particularly loved the sond combined with the opening credits with the diamonds and Blofeld's cat.

There are some entertaining parts, most of which have been mentioned.

I personally feel this is is MUCH more campy than any other Bond flick, including all of Roger's movies. Stromberg and Drax can be taken somewhat seriously. The Blofeld from DAF just can't.

I remember loving all the Bond films when I was younger, but now that I've re-watched all the Bond films on DVD I really hate OHMSS and Diamonds Are Forever. To me the script would've better suited a cartoon or Austin Powers movie, its just friggin terrible!!! Half of the F/X looked phony, super imposed explosions instead of models, silly henchmen and plastic surgery!!! I mean c'mon, it was way to over the top for a Bond movie. Even Die Another Day seemed more plausible to me...

Although I loved the miniature Las Vegas and car chase sequence.
