Hildebrand,
I'm afraid you are putting a little too much confidence in a movie you have not yet seen. I really hope you are right and I find QoS to be an outstanding Bond film. Right now I'm afraid that I will have a similar feeling I had when LTK came out. I LOVE TLD and was hoping that LTK would top it. I was sooooo excited for LTK (as I had been for all Bond movies) but felt really let down as I left the theater. Not that I didn't like LTK (I rank is somewhere around the middle of the series), it just did not live up to TLD. I was feeling the same excitement toward QoS until the reviews came out. Now when I go in to see QoS in 3 weeks (arggg, sometimes I hate being an American :( ) I'm just looking to see a good James Bond adventure, not the best Bond movie ever. If it delivers, I will be happy, not disapointed.

The proof will be in 10 years when you go make yourself a tea or a snack while watching Casino Royale but won't want to while watching Quantum. We'll see.

By all accounts thus far, Eon was not out to make another Casino Royale and, by all accounts so far, Quantum is a superior film to LTK.

Again, we'll see.

No one is saying anything other than Daniel Craig smokes in the role and that the action is ball-breakingly good and that the locations and cinematography are sumptious.

Lastly, instead of Q and Moneypenny, we're getting Felix Leiter and Rene Mathis. How freakin' lucky are we?

:) Daniel smokes in the role but 007 doesn't in Quantum. Felix, appearently, does.

Er really guys, keeps your expectations low if you don't want to be as disappointed as I am. This article is not about the same film I saw (nor the one Lee Pfeiffer saw, and even less the one Graham Rhye saw).

Really, you want to enjoy the next Bond movie : go in the cinema not expecting something as great as Casino Royale, and you probably will enjoy yourself.

No offense, but why should I liseten to you? You went into the film expecting it to be exactly like some fanboy's fake review.

Agreed, though this is not that review. They haven't reviewed it yet.

I agree with stamper. Fannish expectations will not be met by QOS. This does not seek to deliver those. This film is way more ambitious and will work directly against the fan in you.

I enjoyed your own review, ACE, and since I haven't seen the film yet, I'm wondering if I could get your opinion on my (hopefully) educated take on what I believe to be the point of QOS. My thoughts are here:

Not sure what to make of the CBn "After Action Report" Threads.

Anyway: I've read the Variety review now (actually, before I came here), and I'm interested in what others think.

Hi Dell.

I´m actually not worried about the reviews because they say it´s wall to wall frenetic, non stylish, mindless, badly cut, raw action; and from what I´ve seen, we´ve got some sweet character scenes that, should they have come after DAD, people would be over the roof with joy. I don´t mind action and what I´ve seen of the car chase is exciting and well done, not badly edited like some say.

When they say there's little to distinguish Ian Fleming's agent here from any other action franchise hero, apart from his taste for fine hotels and drink I really wanted to ask them what did they want? The line? Moore´s Bond again? Brosnan´s gadgets? What??

Lack of humor I can deal with, lack of "elegance and reinvented old-school stylishness" I can not, and I believe, from what we´ve seen so far, that QOS is not stripped on that matter. I mean, the Tosca scene? That´s got to be cool right?

I simply don´t understand these reviews, and I wish I hadn´t read them. For me, Quantum continues to seem a slick, beautifully done, stylish, visual film. I hope I´m not wrong.

Cheers

JM

John, you've hit it out of the park for a grand slam home run...or, if you're a cricketer, for six!

I wrote in some of the negative review threads that the said reviewer perhaps "lacked the mental capicity" (paraphrasing myself) or "intelligence" to follow such a fast-paced, tightly wound thriller. The 5 Live got this treatment from me as well as Lee Pfeiffer.

It seems that these people either have low IQs or have had so many drinks over the years that their brain cells have popped to the point that their ability to look at something quick yet intelligent is horribly diminished.

I think this Bond movie is going to be a thinking persons action adventure. It will be lightening fast in both action as well as cerebrally...and is going to go way over the heads of people looking for Popcorn Bond.

It's obviously gone over the heads of 5 Live, Lee Pfeiffer, this one from Variety and also Our stamper (who thinks Bond getting shot by Mr White at the end would make this movie one of the best...but with out it, it's one of the worst.)

Go figure.

But, John, you have nailed it, you greedy cunning bastard! :(
