Why do we need to have the complete James Bond theme on EVERY single soundtrack?? We just had it on the Casino Royale soundtrack so it doesn't bother me one bit.. Same goes for the gunbarrel cue.. We had it on the TND, and DAD soundtracks so I'm not bothered about not having it for Quantum of Solace. I would have liked to have the Goldeneye gunbarrel cue..loved the timpani sound!

GE is my favorite gunbarrel because of that, followed closely by CR. I recorded the GE gunbarrel music off of the movie onto my computer.

Hey, does anyone know if YKMN (the version used in the credits of CR) is available anywhere other than in the movie???

iTunes is featuring a Bond collection called The Best of Bond, James Bond (most of us probably have a prior variation of the album--this time it has a reddish cover). It includes the titles sequence version of You Know My Name. Unfortunately, it's an album only track--meaning you have to purchase the entire album to get it. If you don't have any of the songs yet, great! If you've already bought them on other albums, bummer!

I really like this soundtrack. As far as listening to a soundtrack before a movie, I listened to this one more than any other so I had a really good feel for it going into the movie. Time To Get Out was a great opening to the movie. Hearing the first minute, then stopping the music so we can hear real sounds only, & the picking the music back up as the cars leave the tunnel was excellent. Night At The Opera could very well be one of Arnold's best non-action Bond pieces to date.

Anyone else notice that the instrument at 53 seconds into The Dead Don't Care About Vengeance sounds a lot like it was pulled from 9 seconds into Some Kind Of Hero? from Die Another Day.

I have not bought the soundtrack CD yet (I don't think it's actually out til next week) but having heard it on Youtube, there seems to be a DiamondsAreForever~y 'Quantum Theme' (if you could call it that) in pieces like Field Trip and No Interest In Dominic Greene...but I could be mistaken.

Field Trip sounds very reminiscent of Bond Meets Bambi and Thumper from DAF. So far so good, and Another Way to Die has some flourish that sounds like the fanfare of TMWTGG.

That's exactly how I felt too! There is that definate "Bambi and Thumper" vive to that version of the Bond theme (also toward the end of "Time To Get Out" as well). And I always thought the bridge of "Another Way To Die" emulates the beginning of TMWTGG theme as well. Maybe they should bring back Lulu to sing along with Keys and White! :(

This is the part of a new Bond film/experience that I hate the most.

We are at the longest possible point until the next one!

When I heard "Field Trip" the first time, I was delirious with how perfect it was. How Barry-esque. Now that I've been listening to the score quite often for about a week, it doesn't have that wonderful, fresh, 'new Bond score' feeling anymore. And I've just realized I'm perhaps 2, 3 years from that again.

Perhaps I should get some kind of life.

You know...I've never really liked Vesper's theme or why it always is so well regarded. Its syrupy-sweet...feels like diabetes creeping on. I'm far more partial to Elektra's theme...it always had the right amount of mystery to it that Vesper's theme needed badly.

I really love Pursuit at Port-Au-Prince. It reminds me of the Iron Man score - Usual action movie music, but accompanied by electric guitar. Loved it. Also, I love Time to Get Out, though that works best in the movie. It works well with the engines. Also, Oil Fields is amazing. The rest of the score is excellent as well.

I've edited together the QoS gunbarrel by using "The Name's Bond, James Bond" from CR. Sounds pretty decent, although I'd have wished for a different gunbarrel cue.

I also really like the soundtrack.

I also think that Night At The Opera could very well be one of the best non-action Bond pieces to date, that includes Barry.

And, yes, there's more than CR that's being referenced in the Q0S music...I think DAD is being channelled at certain points as well.

Or maybe that's just Arnold showing his lack of range as a composer.

Probably.

Arnold is not Barry. Barry was a genius.

Having said that, Barry recycled his 007 que from FRWL in Thunderball, YOLT and DAF. And if one thought it was his Alt Connery Bond theme, then one would wonder why that 007 cue get's dumped into Moonraker.

That's because the 007 Theme is Barry's short hand. Barry likes to claim he uses the music for scenes which he feels there is a drive, an adventure theme. I like to explain this: 007 Theme is a repetitiously structured piece that can dressed up in any way and you can use it when you're either bored of the picture or realize you have to write a 9 minute action cue in one day. A simple re-orchestration, added textures should do the trick and people will also think it's a clever reference as opposed to lack of original music resulting from time constraints. The usage of 007 in those scenes have a very practical reason.

Or maybe it's just an ethnic instrument to reflect the exotic nature of the place ... :(

I recall hearing this particular piece twice in the Quantum of Solace score. Not enough for me to criticize the guy over but I did think it was interesting to hear. I'd be curious to find out why he used it. Although, I guess it could be it's just something he has in a massive sample library that he just layered in. :(

The instrument is frequently used in QoS as supporting percussion, no big deal.

While I know this conversation originally arose out of discussion of a particular instrument sound, HildebrandRarity's comment was broader than just that. I wasn't actually referring to the instrument sound, but to some brass motifs and underscore which strongly echo (and in some places are directly lifted from) DIE ANOTHER DAY's score.

I also heard a little DAD in QOS.

But I think Arnold went outside the box a few times as well, and it was refreshing. Off the top, I'm thinking of the moments before Bond meets M in Slate's apartment.

And maybe it's because the film he was scoring offered less temptation, but he also seemed to know when to shut up. My main gripes with Arnold have to do with his insistence to try to fill and "enhance" the natural gaps.

Whether I think his work is a vast improvement in QOS or not will take me another couple viewings to decide, but for now I think I can safely say that he at least didn't overstay his welcome.

I'm honestly hearing more CR than DAD in QoS.
