The Radio Times approves. :)

Quantum of Solace
(2008)
:(

Daniel Craig makes an assured return as James Bond in the first direct sequel in the franchise. The action picks up one hour after Casino Royale left off, with Bond looking for answers after the death of his lover Vesper Lynd. This leads to Quantum, a mysterious organisation that has infiltrated the world's corridors of power, and through the front of eco-campaigner Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) is backing a regime change in Bolivia. Shifting loyalties and outright betrayals force Bond to defy his paymasters and team with Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman equally motivated by revenge. Director Marc Forster (The Kite Runner) succeeds in balancing the globe-trotting excesses of the series with a paranoid and engaging storyline. And although the drama does feel subservient to the stunts, that's a minor quibble given their sheer quality and variety. (As well as the noisy chases on land, sea and in the air, there's an artfully mounted gun battle at the opera and a brutal one-on-one encounter in an anonymous hotel room.) The close-up camerawork employed to such exhilarating effect in the The Bourne Ultimatum also works wonders here, but never detracts from the performance of Craig, whose focused take on Ian Fleming's hero goes from strength to strength.

Thank you.

My immediate and considered feedback on this review, having not seen the film myself yet and therefore with nothing I can actually opine that's of any merit whatsoever either in agreement or disagreement or anything inbetween, is:

kfsdfhil wetay88ohs sdfhasghkla kgo;isdga sadsdp[aigas asdsdfp'sdga

There y'go. Although I now have several parts of the keyboard embedded in my skull. It's a look.

But it's the Radio Times.... that's like getting an endorsement from an inflight magazine...now if Barry Norman had written it things would however be different...!

Is this a concern or a deliberate ploy to derail more fans from their bedrooms...?! Actually, if QUANTUM OF SOLACE is so bad that some fans only see it twice, what else will they do...? Leave their houses and interact with people of the opposite lady/man gender scale?

Yes, there's the obvious temptation to advise them to get out more.

But then, upon reading their observations, one realises that their staying in would be far, far better for the rest of us.

Our Parish magazine comes through on a Wednesday; I will put up the review as soon as I have it. It's usually pretty much on the nose on these matters.

Ah! the evening plop of the takeaway menus 'pon the mat. I wonder what they'll say? Ooh... the film contains insufficient amounts of hedge.

I suppose that's a new perspective. Certainly unexpected.

And you know what? All of these writers will take a peek at so-called fan-forums before hacking their own reviews. And what will they find on those fan-forums? The mutiny of a zillion 'fans' already raging whith dislike, fuming with disappointment and furiously agitated cause they've been right all along the last two years in their predictions of the miserable failure 'Quantum Of Solace' was unavoidably to become.

Yes, the Radio Times has been rubbish for the best part of a decade now, but it is still the best TV listings magazine in the UK by a very wide margin indeed. It really is utter gash though. But I'll probably never stop buying it.

I would like to hear what The Funday Times have to say about it, particularly Robotson Crusoe if he still works there.

Beautiful Kitchens have called it "insufficiently kitcheny", which is pretty devastating. Burn Marc Forster now.

He is already smouldering. The new magazine title, PUT THE GUNBARREL BACK WHERE IT WAS SO I CAN GET LAID, has just added its review to the mix and it is not good. Suffice to say they weren't happy. Though some of those readers are most surprised to discover that each of the 20 or so Bond films have large quantities of deleted scenes AFTER the gunbarrel logo but refuse to watch them until they know how red the blood is.

I'll have you know I plan all my cinemagoing/TV viewing based on the reviews in Bunty.

Still, all the publications you mention would probably be more insightful about the film than some of the stuff we've been reading on CBn these past few days.

I don't recall that one. But their Omen triology retrospective was a lulu.

Yes.
