On Friday Night With Jonathan Ross last night, Moore told Ross about how Tony Curtis got fined £50 for trying to smuggle marijuana into the country because he didn't like normal tabacco.

Ross: Did you ever share a doobie with Tony Curtis?
Moore: No.... Not with Tony!

:(

Now, I dunno if this was his idea of a joke (Which was rather funny) or he was actually telling the truth. :)

Being "involved with drugs" and smoking a joint or two sometime between 1927 and 2008 are two different things.

Western governments should do the same thing with pot as they've done with alcohol and tobacco (which, imo, are chemically worse for the body), i.e. decriminalize and tax it. This would put some criminals out of business and help raise funds for medical care, etc.

I believe that's not just your opinion, but that of the medical community as well. To quote my psychology textbook "The greatest health risk of marijuana is legal."

BTW, have the Dutch now followed the Brits in banning fagging in restaurants, etc.? Check out this bizarre piece of news:

Considerably!

Connery (rumored LSD to cope with fame....)

I think I've read somewhere he indeed took LSD, but at a time when it was not an illegal drug, and was prescribed by psychiatrists.

Indeed Loomis! But in "coffee shops", the places where marijuana is legally sold ans smoked, you are still allowed to smoke a joint. Yet not tobacco. :(

More or less off topic, but in Barry Norman's otherwise refreshingly honest autobiography, he tells of an incident which put him off trying marijuana, and said that "apart from one drag" he never has tried it.

"One drag" is trying it you silly twit!

That was Cary Grant's excuse for taking LSD, too!

I don't know if Moore took illegal drugs or not. But part of me hopes it's true as there are some posters on this site who argued passionately that Amy Winehouse shouldn't be allowed to sully (in their opinion, definitely not mine) the Bondian sacred cow because of her (alleged) liking for illegal substances.

The only reason I don't care whether Roger Moore had taken illegal drugs or not is because if he did, it is obvious that it didn't get in the way of his work.

Amy Winehouse is a different story.

Can you be sure of that? It might have improved it. Cary Grant's marvellous performance in North By Northwest, one of his best - if not the best of his career - is credited by some to his use of LSD at that time.

Finished reading Roger's autobio and there's no mention in it of Roger experimenting with any illicit substance. He does recount the legal drugs that were prescribed to him over the years.

I heard they openly smoked pot on the set of Easy Rider and also on Deer Hunter :)

Don't need 'em, haven't tried 'em. Why would I? They are decidedly uncool and I certainly wouldn't wish them on someone.
