well...its out on the DAD main threads and i've taken a listen thanks to robster006 and MBE.

the older bond fans may not appreciate it but nonetheless, i think madonna has come up with something very interesting.

the lyrics are quite bondian and probably correct for the context of the movie as we head from the pre-credits into the main titles

the strings harken back to bondian tradition and plays well the electronic/electro beat that accompanies the orchestral bits. i like the melody and i think its gonna be big around the dance clubs of the world.

my main complaint is that her delivery is entirely thru a vocoder and it sounds a bit 'girlish' rather than 'womanish'.

oh well, we cant have everything.

as it says

I'M GONNA BREAK THE CYCLE
I'M GONNA SHAKE UP THE SYSTEM
...
I'M GONNA DELAY MY PLEASURE
I'M GONNA CLOSE MY BODY NOW

8 out of 10 and more memorable than TWINE or TND but not as good as
AVTAK and LALD (of the up-beat songs as opposed to the ballads)

a certain number 1 to 3. in other words probably the highest charting bond since 1985.

its been too long, 007...

what do u guys think?

The song is quite interesting - much more interesting than TND and TWINE as theme songs.

On one hand, you have a theme song that's taking Bond in a whole new direction.

On the other, you have a theme song that is somewhat forefeitting the traditional Bond song style.

However, I thank God for its uniqueness. It represents a new era of theme song, where we don't have to copy GF every time we want a theme song. Not that the song is perfect. Far from it, in my opinion. Too much techno and vocoder, but the song works in general. Perhaps it would've been better if a full orchestra had been used - complete with brass, but it's not essential. The one major complaint I have about the song is that it's so repetitive. It needs a decent melody!

I'd give the song a B-, or on a five-star scale, probably about a ***.

I can just see this song playing in the clubs and people dancing around to it. The DJ yelling out "Now we have madonnas new one from the new James Bond movie". When is the last time a bond song could be played at a dance club of today? I can see the song doing big things.

hmm i take it i'm in the minority then? i heard it at work today (we play radio one in our stockroom at whsmith) and i thought it was that awful remix everyone was talking about, but NO!!! ok, so i wasn't expecting a return to something like TWINE, but even TND deviated from the normal bond style songs and still pulled it off!
to be honest i wasn't all that impressed. YES its about time mads did a bond theme and YES she's taken it to new and dizzy heights, but i just can't see how it'll tie in with the film, as for me the credits/titles sequence is an important element in the whole bond movie experience.

yeh, the song certainly is unique & to keep rehashing gf would be pretty pointless, but to even consider that it's moving in a "whole new direction" fills me with dread !! it's about as contemporary as britney spears/atomic kitten & i really was expecting maddie to come up with something classic, frozen was a great track, as was ray of light, but even if this wasn't a bond song it's still way down the list of madonna tunes, undoubtably the single will do big things in the charts, but that's hardly a reflection on it's quality. maybe paul oakenfold can salvage something from it.
i think the last good bond song was tnd, twine could have been good too but shirley mansons limited range, well, limited it.........
there are certain things you expect in this life, this is one of 'em. whatever next, pink panther style main title sequence anyone ?
oh, by the way, i hear from inside sources that it was baby rocco that wrote the lyrics, way to go kiddo !

I just got done listening to her new song. Well, I'm going to have to agree with the circus on the fact that it's unique in its own little way. It's not what I've expected at all. It's um, sort of breaking the routine if you will in me opinion. I guess this have to change with the times, but change that much!

I can simply say that Madonnas song was awful. It really sucked... my god. Garbage title song for TWINE was not so good, but it was a real song. Madonnas is ****!

Don't know if this has been posted already , if it has apologies. Old Madge has upset a few groups with the DAD video. Read on

Thinking about this a bit more, if true i bet MGM / EON will be furious with Madge as they would not want adverse publicity this close to the release.

I like her new song and she is being sued by some Jewish people because in her new video she has some letters in their language on her arm and it gets all ripped up or something like that

I first heard it on the Hot 30 here in Sydney.
"Wow! New song by Madonna featuring in the new Bond film!" they said.
I had wanted to hear the song 'officially'. And frankly, it sucked. I thought it was the remix, since 2Day FM always only seems to play remixes where appropriate. At first, the low roaring of the violins and the beat/clapping made me think of a tango. Then that awful thing they do where they repeat something fast with the beat, and that high pitched 'whoosh' thing. Oh man. Then came Madonna's synthesized voice. Oh. My. God. Noooooooo!

So, for the last month and a bit, I have been hearing it over and over again, every night. I have gotten used to it, and have downloaded it, and after listening to it properly, the lyrics do sound something from a Bond film. And I love the violins in the background. It's very grand and haunting.

It is a different approach, and for the 21st Century, I guess it could be appropriate. I just hope they don't do something like this for Bond 21-beyond.

I really loved the TND theme, and the TWINE theme. How come you guys don't? They're really sensual themes. Shirly Manson may not sing good with Garbage normally, but this was really good. As was Sheryl Crow with TND.
But if you want an upbeat Bond theme, nothing compares to Paul McCartney and The Wings' exhilarating theme for Live and Let Die. Great use of the orchestra and electric guitar and the bongos!

It's no secret that Madonna dabbles in the Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism). Way too complex to explain in a message.

The strap she ties on her left arm are tefillin or phylacteries (the complete set of phylacteries include small leather boxes tied on the arm and forehead which include Biblical verses), worn by devout Jews during certain religious ceremonies.

If I remember correctly the Hebrew characters are the ones that represent the word of God. Devout Jews refrain from uttering the word of God unless in prayer. Even in writing, they will break up the word, that is, "G-d" instead of "God".

Hope this explains some of what's going on. BTW, I'm not Jewish, just a lapsed Catholic.

Mark my words, the 9 second mark will be used to show breaking Ice in the title sequence and the 15 second is going to be when it explodes and goes into the story about Bond's apprehension. It just sounds like ice cracking.

I'm sorry, but this song is great. Not the best, but certainly can hold its own and the violin/string background is really captivating. Had they backed off on the electronica, this coud/would have been awesome.

I think that without the drop-out, the 'Sigmund Freud' line (relevance to my psych class gets no Brownie points with me, Madge), and the 'I think I need to lie down now' line (does that even count as lyrics?) this song would be good.

The strings gave the sadness that fit with the torture, so the song could really have been the most fitting Bond song ever.

(A damn good one IMO)

Well anyway I think the guys who sang that song about that blue guy (Sorry, cant remember their names) would of been the best ones to sing DAD.

DAD's lyrics convey Bond's willingness to survive the torture.

I kept thinking of Eiffel 65 after I saw DAD--I think that's what turned me off to Madge's song.

Would've been excellent without the voice changer/cutting-out-of-sound. Perhpas someone will rearrange it? More to the point: why didn't Arnold rearrange it for the end titles and use it as a theme in his score? Orchestrally, it was a good song, so I can't imagine he hated that part of it; I suspect he hated the techno bits.

I thought it was a damn good techno song, though it's not exactly my favorite Bond theme. However, Jeff007 is right about the fact that many clubs and radio stations will give "Die Another Day" a lot of exposure and air-time, and this could be a good thing for Bond. After all, has anyone ever heard "Goldfinger" or "From Russia With Love" thumping away at their last party? I can't think of one rave I've been to where the DJ was spinning "Moonraker".
