Hello everyone,

I thought I'd share with you all a new creation that I've just completed. It is a fan trailer for the one and only Dr. No. It's available currently on YouTube, and you can find it here:

Dr. No - Robodan Trailer - YouTube

I would have a higher quality version available on my website, but it is currently undergoing a design rehaul. But I didn't want to wait with this release, so I felt I'd post it up here and let you have a look at it. This is my appreciation for the film, and an interpretation as to how I would imagine the movie would be advertised today.

Please feel free to leave comments. I would greatly appreciate them. I would like to create edits for each and every film in the series, but that would take quite some time. I'm thinking of working on each of the films that introduce the new 'Bonds' to the world first. And then perhaps tackle the other films, time permitting.

I hope you enjoy and I can't wait to hear from you. And here's to Quantum of Solace opening up in just a few short weeks! I can't wait, as I'm sure you all feel the same way!

Regards,
Dan

I LOVE it.

Seriously, very well done. Maybe I miss more of the James Bond theme, but overall, it's great.

Fantastic work. That was magnificently put together. Reflects the Dr. No feel while also using a very modern formula for a trailer. Great job.

While we're on the topic, how did you edit this trailer? Did you rip the entire DVD video onto your computer and go from there, or did you do something else?

Thanks you guys. I'm glad you enjoy it.

_Ozu_: I was trying to craft this piece without having to rely on the beloved James Bond theme. Since I envisioned this as a 'new introduction', or first time viewing for new fans, I felt it'd be best to save the theme for later edits. A sort of build up, if you will. I couldn't resist keeping in a little bit of it though when he introduces himself in the end, however. :(

001carus: Thanks for your kind words. That was exactly what I was going for. Glad it came across that way. I wanted to draw in new fans or people who aren't familiar with the Bond series, yet keeping in tone with fans who love this film series and not disappoint them.

My process is using the entire film from the best source possible. At this point, it's the remastered DVD's recently released. Then I use programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro / After Effects / Photoshop to create the rest.

Jeff007: Glad you approve!

Qwerty & Wade: Thank you both very much. I'm not too pleased with the compressed quality that YouTube has made of the trailer. I will have a high quality version of it available for users on this board as soon as I can.

Er, what he said. Very good job, RoboDan. Can you do one for Thunderball? That's my favorite Connery Bond film, in fact my favorite Bond film overall.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Thunderball is an excellent film to work on, PrinceKamalKahn. I'll most certainly try to fit that in. I'm not quite sure which movie I'll tackle next, but TB is one of my favorites in the series. I'll be sure to keep it in consideration. :(

That was excellent, RoboDan. :( What is the song that starts playing at 1:16 after the gunbarrel? Sounds familiar but I can't seem to place it. Also, I look forward to the high quality version. :)

Thanks everyone for your great comments. I'm very pleased that the preview is playing so well. I plan to start working on the next one very soon. And as promised, here is a high quality mpeg version of the trailer. It will play best if you have a software DVD player on your system.

Just right-click the link below and save it to your hard drive:
Dr. No HQ Trailer - Right Click to Save As - 122 Mb

double o ego - I'll start working on my resume as soon as I get a few more of these out. :(

Professor Dent - The song in question is a production house cue used specifically for movie trailers. It may be familiar to you since it's been used for many commercials and trailers, most notably for 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

It's interesting to watch this modern style trailer and then watch the original trailer. Very well done. I hope you do more of the early Connery, Lazenby and Moore.
Is it possible to do the Brosnan and Craig films in a sixties style?

darkpath - Thanks. That was exactly what I was going for.

quantumofsolace - I will try to work on many more Bond classics in the future. I'm hoping to start a new one very soon. And that's actually a great idea you have there. I never thought of taking the more modern films in the series and give it that 60's/70's charm. I'll definietely keep that in mind.

I rolled my eyes when I entered this thread, thinking to myself "great, another one of these stupid fan made trailers."

But, RoboDan, I was honestly impressed with it. Very well done, and I'll give my two thumbs up, for whatever they're worth haha.

I've always wondered how studios would recut and and present trailers for older films, especially if they were to be released. I think the trailer for "THX-1138: The George Lucas Director's Cut," which came out a few years ago, was very well done. Likewise, I enjoyed the "Blade Runner: Final Cut" trailer, although they definitely missed the point of the film, or rather, Warner Bros continued to insist selling the film as a sci-fi action film, which it is obviously not.

anyway, good job, and I'm looking forward to your future projects.

Hello RivenWinner. Sorry for the delayed response, but I've been quite busy as of late. Thanks for your vote of confidence. Much appreciated!

I too, admire and marvel newly released trailers for classic films. The two examples you brought up are two of my favorite promos as well. The mood emitted from the THX promo gave me more thrills and chills than the entire new Star Wars Prequel saga combined. Truly a great piece.

The Blade Runner trailers were a great way to hook in new faces, as well as bring a smile to old fans. I don't mind Warner Bros. advertising the film the way they did, because I feel it did it's job perfectly to attract new audiences. I can see why some will say it lends itself more to an 'action oriented' piece, but I enjoy it's mystery and ability to hook the viewer for that minute and a half, and not let go. Using the great score from Clint Mansells' "The Fountain" didn't hurt either.

Thanks again for taking a look at my work. I hope to release more Bond related material soon. And I can't tell you how much pain I am in right now to catch Quantum of Solace. Every single TV spot drives me further into a frenzy! Why can't it be November already! :(
