Mick has a supporting role in a just-released film called THE INFORMERS. Mixed reviews, to say the least. And it was filmed a while back. But this excerpt from The San Francisco Chronicle's review has persuaded me to check it out:

So a few highlights, the first of which is Mickey Rourke: "The Informers" was filmed about a year and a half ago, before anybody was taking him seriously, which is probably why we find him here, in a small role as a depraved criminal who makes money - get this - by kidnapping little boys and selling them. He sells them to a group of people whose exact purpose is unclear, but plainly horrific.

And so, there comes this moment: The crook (Rourke) finds out that he has unintentionally double-crossed this group of maniacs - that he has taken their money and failed to deliver the boy. He tells his nephew that they need to clear out immediately. The nephew (Brad Renfro, in his last performance) is skeptical. He doesn't see the need to run, to which Rourke replies, "You don't know what they're capable of, OK? ... They're like out of a f- nightmare."

The fascinating thing about that moment is that the line itself could have been written by anybody owning a pen. You read it on the page - no impact. But when Rourke says it, it's enough to chill the blood of every person sitting in a movie theater. He says it calmly and slowly, with emphasis on the "n" in "nightmare." You get the sense of a whole world of horror behind the line, things he's heard, things he's seen. And to make it even more amazing, for the second half of the line, he's not even on camera. He achieves this effect with his voice alone. Incredible.

A remake of MONA LISA? Reportedly, Mickey Rourke has signed on for the Bob Hoskins part. How cool would it be if landed an Oscar like BH? Surely the first time two actors have won Oscars for the same role.

Sadly Bob was only nominated for Mona Lisa.
