Jeez, I miss the big guy. He turned in some immortal performances. I wish to hell he'd done more.

I've enjoyed Shaw in everything I've seen him in on film. And he died in such a lousy year! Shaw's remark from Film Score Monthly's excellent FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE music score release, when Shaw compared his role in FORCE 10 with Burton's WWII adventure turn in WINGS OF EAGLES. In that Shaw was a "respected" actor not usually associated with such "common" fare.

Yep, far too young.

I've only ever seen him in FRWL and Jaws, both of which he did really well in. Red Grant in particular is a legendary villain and always great to watch on repeat viewings.

Thanks to the Bond series, I've been able to discover many actors and follow their careers, including Robert Shaw. He seemed to take a variety of different roles and never had much of a type from what I could tell. A sad loss to be sure.

He also did a great job in Force 10 from Navarone, his last film.

I also liked him in The Taking of Pehlem One, Two, Three. However, my other favorite Shaw role, besides that of Red Grant, was that of King Henry VIII in The Man for All Seasons.

And let us not forget The Sting...another brilliant performance that had slipped my own mind.

Robert Shaw was the best actor to grace the Bond series, he stole the show in FRWL even from Connery.

He was excellent in The Sting as well (with Butch, and Sundance).

If you notice the limp his character has in this film, it's not Mr. Shaw getting into character- it's Mr. Shaw with a game knee, so the writers wrote the limp in.

After looking through so many Robert Shaw pics lately, it occured to me that Daniel Craig would make an excellent Red Grant. Oh well...

I always thought Robert Shaw in FRWL resembled Craig in CR, especially with the blond, short hair.

Shaw had the coldest gaze of any actor I've ever seen! Amazing menacing screen presence and yet he made such a ribald and wonderful King Henry VIII in A Man For All Seasons.

Huh? He was a notorious drunkard. Spielberg said it was tough getting him to turn up on time for shooting of Jaws because he was always drunk from the night before. But it was worth it for that performance.
