Holy Facelift , Bond!

But then, only two years after Octopussy he hardly looked like himself. Thick 'old man like' eyebrows and old man's face. My question is; when did the old Roger get a facelift, or did he just age like that?
I'm no expert of aging men and I'm not an expert of facelifts, when the facelift isn't as obvious as it was with Joan Rivers, who has had more than a facelift... more than one facelift and then some other work on her face.
Does anyone know if Roger got a facelift, and if he did, then when did he get it?

Plus, he has no mole!
Yes; I always wonder if that disappeared because, post-facelift, it had travelled across his cheek!
I sort of hope there was no medical reason otherwise that might look a bit callous

as no man could go from sagging-jowled to mummified corpse in just under a year!
Haha! I see your point. But is it sharp enough?
(I'm going to watch AVTAK in a matter of minutes and I'll watch carefully if his mole has disappeared or moved from one place to another)

Maybe, it became cancerous and it had to be removed. It is a possibility if he didn't have surgery.
Exactly. He went for an examination as the mole had gotten larger so, even though it wasn't cancerous, it was removed.

Well actually, he wouldn't have had a mole at all if he disclosed the fact that Miss Frost and Moon were on the fencing team together.

I wonder if the "mole" joke from Austin Powers 3 was a reference to Roger Moore's famous mole. I mean partly made as reference to him...

Probably. Almost anything from Austin Powers is a reference to Bond, plus the mole did have the mole where the mole of Roger Moore was. Try saying that when you're drunk.

No, it's not that; his face is definitely tighter in certain places in AVTAK. Before, in certain lights, Roger looked either older or younger than his age; for instance, one can see his liver spots as he snogs by the fireplace in TSWLM, when most generally feel he looked young, and in some shots of the rickshaw in Octopussy, he looks much younger, when most say in this film he looks far too old; in AVTAK, however, his face is unnaturally tight and shiny all over, and his sagging jowls and cheekbones are suspiciously missing, replaced by pulled-back, taut skin.Yeah, I think he just looks different because he'd lost some weight and his hair was a lighter colour than it was in Octopussy.

I disagree with you, and I have studied him in both OP and AVTAK in detail. He looks a little bit different in some scenes but it is far from "obvious" that he had a facelift. No, it's not that; his face is definitely tighter in certain places in AVTAK. Although he would say that, wouldn't he...

I just think you are in denial, it is that startled look he has throughout AVTAK. Classic face-lift look.I disagree with you, and I have studied him in both OP and AVTAK in detail. He looks a little bit different in some scenes but it is far from "obvious" that he had a facelift.

Agree. It looked like he was stuck with that look. No much raising your eyebrow ála Moore, when you can barely move your face

Yes; also, if he had lost even more weight than he had in Octopussy, his appearance would have been rather reminicent of Fat Bastard's at the end of Goldmember...Agree. It would be absurd to suggest that Roger Moore's look didn't change between Octopussy and A View To A Kill. Part of it was undeniably weight loss and part of it was because he was wearing contacts to correct his sight. Whether it was down to anything else, I don't know and wouldn't like to speculate. But I do recall his joking in an interview about cosmetic surgery at the time, saying if he had had anything done, he'd've sued the plastic surgeon for leaving the bags under his eyes. And having met Roger Moore professionally on a handful of occasions in his post-Bond career, most recently about five years ago, I've seen no evidence in the flesh of anything other than his being blessed with fabulous skin and the ability to mature gracefully unaided.

While I'll grant you Roger's appearance was "off" in AVTAK, he looked much more himself (and better) in the later "Happy Anniversary 007" special, in interviews at the time AVTAK was released and as a commentator for the wedding of Prince Andrew and Fergie. Today he looks his age, but naturally so, with none of the weird artificiality you see in old people who've had work done (like the frozen Robert Redford or the terrifying Mary Tyler Moore). People who get a face lift are only hurting themselves in the long run, as they look neither young nor naturally aged. They just look like freaks.
What we know is that Roger had the mole removed for health reasons, and that he lost weight suddenly due to illness, which can make you look gaunt and possibly "baggy". My hypothesis is that the make-up folks on AVTAK may have tried to compensate by taping back Roger's face, which I know can be done though I'm not sure how.
Anyway, I don't buy that he had a facelift and if he did he should get his money back as it only lasted a few months. I'm just sorry they couldn't delay filming on AVTAK until he was fully recovered. In some scenes, he looks great.

When a man or woman's face looks tight and their nose looks like wax it really creeps me out.

Charles Bronson's facelift didn't ruin him, not for me anyway.
But then, to be fair, he wasn't exactly a beauty before it, was he?

Well, have you seen Octopussy lately? It's only been now that Roger looks the age he does in that film; his face is only as baggy as it was in '83, but even now (if you look especially carefully, as when he gave that video intro for his new book), you can see tightness around the eyes and cheeks, and his eyebrows seem to be stuck in the "vaguely amused" position. I'm guessing he's aged into his facelift... which is especially worrying if one considers what he might look like today without it.The thing about plastic surgery is that it can't really be undone. It just makes you look weird and from there you either keep looking weird or you get more work done and look even weirder. You can't get a facelift done for one film and then "turn it off."
