The firing of alluded reporter might also be a 'thing'.
There's what, three people in this arrangement. Sir Roger, Reporter, Editor. Either an interview was given or it was not.
We may be concerned about the effects of Twitter as the Next Big Method of (random) reporting but to be quite honest, we've been there for the last 30 years or so. BAU, in my opinion
