I would love to know the answers or at least other people's theories to these three things:

1) Why did Liz Shaw stay for only two episodes? (Spearhead and Silurians).
Was it because they needed a female character that would "idolize" the Dr instead of being on some form of intelligence level with him? Jo Grant treated the Dr like a father figure almost. He did state in "Terror of the Autons" (intro of Jo Grant) that he wanted a "proper qualified assistant or none at all". Curious.

2) If the Master was able to change the shape of his Tardis to fit the surroundings into which he materialized (horsebox, computer stand etc) they why did the Dr continue with the police box?
Hardly subtle.

3) Was there a reason why Tom Baker didn't take part more in "The Five Doctors" episode?
Was it because he was pissed at being replaced by Davidson or that he felt he didnt get enough lines? I've heard many theories.

Thanks.

EDIT: oh and 4) Why oh why did they allow the Brig to deteriote into some form of Col Blimp character? He was so sharp and dark esp in "The Inferno". That pissed me off to no end.

I think I know number 2. In one of the early episodes he explains that the Tardis is faulty and has lost the ability to change shape.

A real Dr Who fan might know better though.

Is that it? I can't recall that point. Was it lost when the ability for de-mat was taken away by the Time Lords (by changing the codes) temporarily during the early episodes of the Pertwee era??

EDIT: Sorry I just noticed there is a Dr Who Appreciation Thread on here. I guess this should be there.

  • Don’t know.
  • Baker felt he was ‘done’ with Doctor Who and didn’t want to retread his career. He regrets it now.
  • Chameleon Circuit™ is busted on the Doctor’s TARDIS. It work during one season of the Colin Baker era.
  • Roger Moore Syndrome.

1. Liz Shaw stayed for a whole season; so four stories, not just two. They changed her for Jo Grant because Liz was too clever- it was just two clever scientists talking about things the audience wouldn't understand. They added Jo as she was more accessible and could ask the Doctor what was going on where Liz (as the clever one) shouldn't.

2. It's broken.

3. A few reasons- he'd only just left so didn't entirely want to (although he was going to do it for a while), was also busy on another production, plus I think it was thought he might overpower the thing. A shame, but it's understandable.

4. Well for the most part he wasn't in Inferno! That was the Brigade Leader. Otherwise, he did get a bit stupid, but was pretty on the button in his later appearances. And now he's lost in Peru...

re 1)You're right, I forgot that she was in The Inferno and The Ambassadors too. Sorry. Yes I agree with you're reasoning there.

re 2) Figured that.

re 3) That's what i thought, heard his ego was a little big for the whole thing.

re 4)The Brig/The Brigade Leader had equal screentime (as I remember) in The Inferno but just wondered why the hardness of Brig Lethbridge Stewart was made into a farcical bumbling man.
Come to think of it, why WAS U.N.I.T dispanded anyway?

Here's a fun bit of news that I've only just come across: we haven't seen the last of the Brigadier!
He's coming back, but not in Doctor Who itself just yet.

It wasn’t. UNIT made an appearance in a couple of episodes this season.

Must have missed those ones...have to admit, my preference is upto the Davidson era...I tended to lose interest after that.
