Caspian Sea Monster

While in London I attended the international press conference on the 28th. As the book was out, Sebastian Faulks could finally speak openly about plot details, and he explained that he discovered the Caspian Sea Monster by accident. He was looking for information on the Caspian, and in Googling "Caspian Sea" he stumbled on a website devoted to this mysterious "cold war vehicle."
I'm wondering if THIS is that site. There also this very cool YouTube footage of the monster in action.
Even if you haven't read the book yet, check these links out. It helps to have a mental image.

Just seeing this now and it's nice to see my mental picture was extremely close with the actual real life ekranoplan.

It has some nice pics! (go to the article to see and read more - in English)
Big enough to transport tanks:
What struck me is that there are still a few Ekranoplans today (although not in service, I suppose); here's one of them in tow of a boat, on the Volga:
UPDATE: plenty of very recent pics of the Ekranoplan above here:

Apparently, it is now presented in an exhibition at a sort of naval museum north of Moscow! It's in the Северное Тушино park, at the "Museum-Memorial complex of the Russian Navy" or Музейно-мемориальный комплекс Военно-морского флота России (if you plan to visit Moscow).
