Ian Fleming family has view to a killing with new James Bond novel

A licence to kill has turned into a licence to print money. The family of Ian Fleming is set to boost its fortune with the publication next week of a new James Bond novel. The initial print run is 400,000 copies in Britain and America, and the possibility of a spin-off film is strong.

The book, written by Sebastian Faulks to mark the centenary of Fleming

I just love it when Faulks say DMC is the Bond novel Fleming would have written if he had lived a little longer and recovered his enjoyment of the character. Can't wait for it.

Almost begging for comparisons, isn't it?

Just a matter of days now!

The main Doubleday page has two absolute howlers at the moment - the title of the book and Fleming's name are both wrong!

Hilarious!
Easy enough mistake though - it's not like the cover of the book is right there or anything.

Indochina, eh? Perhaps Byron and I were right.

There's also an article in today's Sunday Times (see the Culture section) that explains, among other things, why Faulks was chosen.

Spin-offs aside, the centenary of Fleming's birth this year seemed the most opportune moment to return Bond to the adult literary world and a chance to attract a really special author. "I read Sebastian Faulks's On Green Dolphin Street and loved it," (Corinne) Turner (managing director of Ian Fleming Publications) says, "I thought then that he'd be quite interesting. When we revealed that we'd brought in an author, but weren't saying who it was, everyone assumed it was Martin Amis, or somebody in the thriller genre, but we wanted to do something that was completely different. I never imagined we could attract somebody like Sebastian."

The article, entitled "This Diamond Is Forever", is by BATTLE FOR BOND author Robert Sellers.
