Details on a confrontation between Bond and Greene, all new photos, and more

It seems that this article, originally sourced from Hoycinema, has details of the confrontation between Bond and Dominic Greene towards the end of the movie, that has recently been filmed in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

However, the translation is pretty poor so it's a struggle to decipher the true meaning of it. I've tried to make some sense of it, but I'm struggling on one or two words:

[box]As completed in the last scene that was filmed at Michilla, Chile, Dominic Greene no longer has anything to lose. His contacts with the corrupt General Medrano have already been discovered by 007 and his last card is to take a truck loaded with explosives and crashing it into James Bond's vehicle in the middle of the desert.

It will be the farewell parafern

I saw a bit of Licence to Kill in the pictures of Bond/Camille in the boat as well.

Still, if you were to combine The Spy Who Loved Me and Licence to Kill into one Bond film I'm sure the results would be pretty good.

Not that this is in anyway a combined remake of the two!

So we're going mano y mano with the weapon of choice being car bombs?

Nice.

I hope. I don't know ... something just doesn't sound right when it's laid out on paper like that. Then again, the producers probably thought Die Another Day was a good idea on paper, and look how it turned out ...

I could simply be bad reporting, with the reporter being influenced by Casino Royale (miami airport, tanker) and Licence to Kill (tanker chase).

More Licence to Kill, I agree there. Explosive truck in the desert.

It would be a really interesting finale, despite its echoes of LICENCE TO KILL. It also makes sense of the assertion that the final fight would have some fire involved.

I'm sorry, but I'm really notseeing the parallels to Licence to Kill. LTK's ending involved Sanchez trying to make a getaway with his cocaine-gasoline mixture and Bond taking the trucks out one by one before immolating Sanchez.

If this is true, Qunatum of Solace will have Greene actively trying to kill Bond with a truck laden with explosives after Bond stops his plot. Sure, Sanchez tried to kill Bond after Double-Oh Seven destroyed everything he had, but if memory serves, his weapon of choice was a machete, not a car bomb, and his attempt at killing Bond was not particularly well thought-out. Greene, on the other hand, contacts Medrano - who apparently survives - and seeks out the explosives to assassinate Bond.

There's a big difference between the two; beyond the fact that it takes place in the desert and invovles an explosion, there's nothing between the films. The way I see this playing out, Dominic Greene decides to make his final stand somewhere in the desert - probably at the observatory - and sends an explosive-filled truck out to stop Bond, who he knows is coming. There's only one way in or out of the observatory grounds, so Greene could probably park the truck by the side of the road and make it look abandoned or broken down, retreat to the Residencia and try and detonate it remotely when Bond passes by. Of course, Bond survives, and the two have the Final Fight inthe observatory.

Granted. But that's enough to evoke LICENCE TO KILL, and that's all most of us are commenting on. In the end, it might not be LICENCE TO KILL-like at all.

I like the talk of Bond using a revolver in the scene, that I have heard elsewhere. Echoes of LALD anyone?

On another wesbite, (MI6.co.uk to be exact), they had a report on the QoS production. They said "Amalric was made-up to appear battered and bloodied, suggesting the final scenes of the 22nd Bond film will take place in the desert tundra. Bond was filmed dodging between cover, and firing back with a revolver."

Maybe they're trying to prove Licence to Kill would have done well nowadays, so they're remaking it action set-piece by action set-piece over the course of several films.

Seriously though, I hope it's not too similar, because I think it'll be hard to top LtK in the "tanker chase through a Latin American desert" department. That movie had Bond building up to the finale by allowing Sanchez to unravel and do most of the damage to himself. Hopefully QoS provides a similar thrill level, because the easier that superficial comparisons can be drawn between movies, the greater the scrutiny.

Of course, I'm one of the not terribly common (even among fandom) LtK fanboys, and most of the general public doesn't remember it, so it's not much of a problem even if QoS does have a lot of similarities.

No, silly. Tamawhorey would like 888 men and preferably ones that aren't employed by the LAPD.

There was a long article sort of auto-translated from Spanish that mentioned some blood, but I couldn't make sense of it. This might have come from a better translation of that article.

I sort of like the idea of some sort of shoot out, each hiding behind a boulder. That sort of stuff can be very tense if done right. Still makes me think of Licence to Kill!
