I also liked the fact that Bond tipped him after he won, what was it $100,000? Not a bad life.
Monsiour Bond wins!

I just looked this guy's resume up on imdb.com.
It says he's 7'5"!!!!
Don't recall if we saw him standing up, but that seems hard to believe.

One more short story about him: When the production company called his casino (because they were looking for a dealer) he was coincidentally on phone and said: "You are looking for a card dealer? You have just found him. Take me!" They gave him the job, he didn't tell his card-dealer-colleagues and flew to Prague... And really did a good job.

Interesting little anecdote there.

Good for him!

But I'm just curious: if the production was looking for a card dealer, any card dealer, not a particular one (since they hired the first one who answered the phone), why did they look for him in an Austrian casino, instead of hiring one in Prague (there are casinos there too)?

Why they called an Austrian casino and not one in Prague? Maybe because the Austrian casinos are international accepted and have a good reputation. But I dont't know exactly.

YES, Daniel Andreas is his name and YES, he is a real card dealer in Austria. When CR came out, some Austrian newspapers did several interviews with him about his role and the work on set. He reportedly got about 30.000 Euro for his role (he bought himself a new car with the money) and during the breaks on set they (cast and crew) always played poker (reportedly daniel craig is still owing him some money
). Since CR I always see him on TV (of course as card dealer) when they show some live professional poker-tournaments.

Cool story, thanks!
I would have done it for free of course. No that I'm any good at dealing cards.

Skudor, for a chance to be in a Bond movie - and have a very significant appearance at that - you would undoubtedly learn until you were blue in the face.

Or practice until the fingers fell off.

Even though we didn't see him stand up, he seemed to tower over everybody and had a great presence and his demeanor was one of a pro card dealer. An excellent choice! I mean he's there and you do take note of him but he's not really interfering with proceedings. Sort of like a good referee at a football/soccer match.

Also, I thought he played his part well.

I saw CR 3 times in the theatre and each time, when Bond threw that $100K chip to him and he said, "thank you very much sir", it got huge laughs. I thought it was ironic because he didn't smirk or anything.
Also, I thought he played his part well.
I also thought that he played the part very well. He did a great job of keeping the audience informed as to what was going on in the game without having to explain over-explain things to the audience, just with simple acknowledgements to the players as to whose turn it was and how much was being bet, etc. I thought it was a much better, and more subtle way of engaging the audience in the poker game than what we got with the lines that Mathis was made to say, with lines that were obviously there to just explain things to us ("He'll have to go all in to call his bluff" and other lines like that).

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Watch Casino Royale again and you'll see by the proportions of his upper body that it's impossible for him to be that tall. I doubt he's even 6'5".It says he's 7'5"!!!!

Are you serious? If we can't trust in Imdb, in who can we?

The only thing on IDMb that's consistently accurate is their cast lists for films that are already on VHS/DVD and even those can be dubious at times. The "height" of this actor was added by a user that has zero credibility. I could add "Sean Connery was accused of molesting a child on the set of Marnie to IDMb's page on Marnie but does that make it true?
Wikipedia is a little more accurate that IDMb because of its overzealous moderators but even its information should be scrutinized.

I ussually believe in Imdb, but anyway, I just wanted to paraphrase Pierce's phrase at the beginning of The World is not Enough... y'know, "If we can't trust a Swiss banker, who can we?"Wikipedia is a little more accurate that IDMb because of its overzealous moderators but even its information should be scrutinized.

Trust whoever/whatever you want but be prepared for the consequences. For example, putting false information in a school paper is the recipe for a bad grade.I ussually believe in Imdb, but anyway, I just wanted to paraphrase Pierce's phrase at the beginning of The World is not Enough... y'know, "If we can't trust a Swiss banker, who can we?"Wikipedia is a little more accurate that IDMb because of its overzealous moderators but even its information should be scrutinized.

I really liked him. He has quite a few lines and has presence but doesn't really interfer with whats going on between Le Chiffre and Bond.
I also liked the fact that Bond tipped him after he won, what was it $100,000? Not a bad life.
Monsiour Bond wins!
Yes he's very charismatic. He's perfect.

I'm wondering whether someone was trying to put in that he was 175cm, which is far more believable. 175cm isn't exactly tall though.

(..am I the only one who found his uniform a bit corny / tacky?)
No, you're not the only one. It has grown on me though.
