You suggest forgetting about Moneypenny and Q because Lois Maxwell and Desmond Llewelyn have passed away? Don't you think they would have wanted their characters to live on?

Very good point. I think that argument is silly, those characters can live on very well given the right casting.

David Jason has been mentioned as a good choice for Q, this still intruigues me. He's an actor the audiences would love dearly also.

How about this guy for Q?

I think that either the actor in the link or either of the two people helping Bond through the poisoning sequence in CASINO ROYALE would be good suggestions for Q. I also wouldn't mind seeing someone like Jason Isaacs or Sam Neill portraying Q as a former MI6 agent turned Quartermaster. I think that would be a good way to put an interesting twist on the concept of the Q character, and would avoid having someone just try to copy what Desmon Llewelyn did with the role, because I don't think that anyone will ever be able to match what he did with the role.

The problem with the two guys in the poisoning sequence is that they're medical doctors. Major Boothroyd is more of an engineering expert.

That's true. I hadn't thought of that. The guy in the link, though, I think he'd be good for the Q role.

I disagree. IGN said the MI6 Technician looks more like Al Borland (Richard Karn) from Home Improvement than Q.

With that mustache, he looks a bit like John Cleese's Q.

Perhaps, but I like the fact that it would show some continuity between films by having someone who was performing a task that would be associated with the Q Branch turn out to be Q in a later film if/when Bond has to make a trip down to Q Branch.

As far as other Moneypenny suggestions are concerned, it's too bad that EON cast Christina Cole as the Ocean Club receptionist in CASINO ROYALE. I think that she could have made a good Moneypenny as well.

They can always put up a story that she was spotted and recruited by M when she came at he Ocean Club, after Solange was murdered

True... So, let's put it this way: she was already an MI6 agent, charged by M of shadowing Bond, undercover as a receptionist. She did such a good job at the desk that, instead of giving her a 00 status, M hired her as her secretary... What a botched carreer! :(

David Jason is still my most interesting and instantly lovable choice for a great Q.

IMO Moneypenny should be played by a classy British, experienced actress, a familiar face perhaps but not too famous. She should also be attractive but not leading Bond girl attractive if you know what I mean. Hayley Atwell is a good idea. Some other ideas -

Zoe Telford - 34. Has a natural aura of intelligence and efficiency.

Posted Image

Sophia Myles - 28. Currently in American tv series Moonlight with Alex O'Loughlin

Posted Image

Justine Waddell - 31. Played the lead in Tess Of The D'Urbervilles 10 years ago - the role that Gemma Arterton is just about to play for the BBC.

Posted Image

Emilia Fox - 33. Daughter of one-time M, Edward.

Posted Image

Anna Friel - 31. Has come a long way since Brookside. Could bring some sauciness to it if they wanted to go down that route.

Samantha Bond was my favourite, but I do hope they ditch the political correctness slant to the character if she does indeed re-appear in a future film. Political correctness, it will be the death of us.

Not last for me, that has to go to what's her face in the Dalton films. She was a real wet fish and a terrible actress.

Yea but Bond was just as bad with the cigar tube business. He even lets her throws a perfectly good Romeo y Julieta Churchill in the bin! What a disgrace.

At least Caroline Bliss's Moneypenny did something useful to the plot of Licence to Kill in enabling Q to travel to Bond's aid; what did Samantha's Moneypenny ever do?

I'd go for Amanda Holden. Good actress, about the right age and atractive. TBH I've never really cared for the Moneypenny character. I'd rather see someone like Gardner's "Q'ute" & kill two birds with one stone.

Samantha is my favourite, I didn't say she was the best. I do think there is a difference.
