D is for Sir David Brown (1904-93), British agricultural equipment industrialist whose firm owned the Aston-Martin car company from 1947 to 1972. His firm owned Aston at the time the Bond franchise started, and the DB-series car nomenclature was nothing more than his initials. The DB-5 represented the fifth revision or redesign of an Aston-Martin vehicle on David Brown's watch, and the brand name logo on the front and rear of the DB-5 has both David Brown and Aston-Martin in it. Since Brown is not mentioned at all in any of the Bond franchise history that I've read over the years, has he ever been interested in Bond at all?
