It wouldn't take a genius to realise The Saint would work as a period piece. How many successful incartnations of Mrs. Marple and Poirot have existed in this form? Having said that, the Moore and Ogilvy versions certain succeeded withing the context of their own era without straying too far from the Charteris blueprint.

This is starting to sound like the Highlander series in some ways.
One sad part is many people think The Saint was a secret agent to begin with because he fought spies and secret organizations and was played by Roger Moore.
