So what are they doing now, resting ?
Even though we're not positive as to what exactly is filling in this filming time, I think we can be assured that they're doing something.
Resting was not a word that came to mind too often when we saw Martin Campbell with the Casino Royale production.

This would have been a big and important scene using such an amazing place. I doubt it was an easy thing to cancel filming there and they will be having some real emergancy work going on to substitute it.
This is worrying and could affect the quality of the film...

I'm going to be realistic here..

Oh please. Let's get some context here folks. The "quality" of the film will not be affected. Every film production no matter how big or small has to ditch plans, rearrange others and start new ones. Its part of the organic business we call film making. If anything, this 11th hour cancellation could signal a better, more economical substitute as in film-making the best artistic decisions emerge from the most limiting of conditions.
And it is just ONE location in a film of MANY locations. If the Bond film wagon can survive protesting Greek monks, melting ice, impossible altitudes, Russian bureaucracy and local hoods it can certainly cope with the loss of one MINOR location. Ten days is not a major locale for Bond.
No film - ESPECIALLY A BOND FILM - operates without a contingency plan.

If that's realism, I await fantasy with interest.

It sounds like it would have been a pretty important scene. Macchu Picchu is very well-known and the original details said that it would have a 250 production crew and they would be filming for 10 days. I know some people weren't too keen on using Macchu Picchu as a locale but I think it could have been amazing.

Sorry to drag up an old topic but does anyone have any idea what they replaced filming in Peru with. I think I read in a English tabloid that they were going to film in a warehouse in East London instead but it was in a tabloid which means that it isn't true...

Was it replaced with the Chile observatory/desert location? It seems like we only started hearing about Chile as a filming location after the Machu Picchu story came and went.

I probably would go for Greene's party though.
What I really wanted to see, was the massive truck explosion in the PTS, that wasn't filmed.

I'm guessing it may have been when Bond and Camille walk out of the desert.Sorry to drag this thread up, but did we ever find out what the location was going to be used for? If not I wonder if we'll get it in the next one.

I doubt that would take ten days of shooting schedule involving 250 people.
